Question want more towing power

I have a 97 XLT w/ 5.4 and supercab. I am not terribly pleased with the towing performance, especially up hills. I'm considering a new exhaust, filter kit and superchip. I am clueless about this stuff and would appreciate any help. I am afraid of losing low end with a new exhaust.

I don't care about how cool the engine sounds, just want more juice!

Thanks!

Chip 1st, more torque and hp, exhaust 2nd, gibson or flowmaster70 3" single. Both almost as quite as stock and noticable gaines in power. Intake third, I really didn't notice much improvement with the airaid. Chip also improves shifting with the auto trans. I tow a lot up to 7000lbs. The mods really made a difference. Only downside is having to use premium but mileage usually improves.
