Question question about exaust

I want to get an aftermarket exaust for my truck. My dad doesnt really know alot about that kinda stuff and he thinks that buying exaust will screw up all of the factory settings. Is that true? I also want a k&n air filter. Will this change anything on the truck like the backpressure? Will that make it run slower??

Cool

Welcome to the site Matt. This site will help you make informed descions, get your Dad and read some of the threads together.
Hopefully I can help. Aftermarket exhaust won't hurt your truck as long as you don't reduce the back pressure too much. And as far as the K&N, go for it. You will never have to buy an air filter again. And it increase throttle response. I have the K&N and an airbox mod, it really helped the throttle response. I'm also checking into a muffler replacement (cheaper than an exhaust system). There is a site selling K&N filters for $37.95, but I can't remember where. Do a search, and see if that helps.

$38???? wow, good deal. Mudder paid $63 for my K&N air filter. so far the mileage is going back and forth- 1st tank: 16mpg, 2nd tank: 18 mpg, 3rd tank: 17.5mpg, and 4th tank: 17 mpg. Acceleration does feel a little bit snappier over 35mph, but that could be just in my head.

Matt: about your exhaust, I have a mufflerless exhaust on my 93, and in no way did it hurt any factory emissions. It helps the engine, breath better, thus creating more hp and mpg. Do not remove your convertor, becuase your check engine light will be on, and that gets annoying. Also I you would be inviolation of a law, and ruining back pressure. consider a freer breathing muffler or no muffler, or duals.
