Post MPG increase with Gibson

Well guys and gals, I just burned my first tank of fuel with my new Gibson Swept Side installed. I drive mostly "around town".

With the stock exhaust system my truck averaged about 12.5 MPG. With the new Gibson system installed, I just clocked in at 14.8 MPG. That's a 2.3 MPG increase!

The real kicker is that since I've had the Gibson, I've been a little harder on the throttle "playing around" with my new added performance. I am going to watch my MPG like a hawk and I'll report back if things change.

Also, I just installed a shiny new Airaid FIPK last night. This might affect my mileage as well. Overall impressions of the Airaid are good. Definitely a good "seat of the pants" enhancement. One word of caution regarding the Airaid: the instructions clearly state "for offroad use only!". The Airaid is not street-legal in all states since it does not fully comply with federal emission standards. I did not know that when I purchsed mine.

My truck is a '98 5.4L XLT 4x4 SWB Supercab.

Hey Steve, on the Airaid check the seal where the MAF and mounting bracket are bolted together. Pull filter off and stick a light in there. I just put one on 2 weeks ago and you could see light through there. I called Airaid thinking there should be a gasket and they said there isn't one. I made my own and took care of the problem. DO NOT USE SILICONE.

Steve,

How can something that does not "emit" anything not meet emmisson standards? This thing only draws in air. I'm confused. Not "Street legal". Huh? I don't buy it.
