Question Dynomax Super Turbo

My Question is this: What am I to expect when running either no mufflers or the Dynomax Super Turbo. 1) performance 2) sound 3) torque

I have a appointment to have a cat back system installed tomorrow. They say it will run $250 for duals out the back with 3 1/2' x 22" tips. They use 2 1/4 non-mandrel pipe and the price is without mufflers. They will let me hear without mufflers to decide if I want to add them or not. They will do a Dynomax Super turbo for $50.

Will I be sorry without the muffler?

I am not sure what you are asking. I was told to be carefull and that too much of a good thing can hurt your low end performance. Your truck does need a certin amout of backpressure to perform properly. I myself would not do the no muffler thing. You can see what I did by my signature. Please read my Original post on the Dynomax Superturbo topic

I wouldn't use the 2 1/4" tubing if they aren't mandrel bent. By the time they use the ram to bend the tubing it will be 2" or less in diameter. Going over the axle will create a lot of backpressure. 2 1/2" might be a better choice. I've used the Super Turbo's on my 97 F150 and they are nice. Not too loud.

Micheal Reschke, all the post given are good advise, V-10 said , use 2 1/2" aluminized pipe and that's a must and those turbos, they have a good back pressure, will probably sound alot like a Mustang GT.
I am running about the same as you want, only a 5.4 motor, sound is deep and gets louder around 2800 and on up.
By the way, those turbos have a limited life time waranty.....

Thumbs up

I just checked with Pro Exhaust (the shop I'm using) and they will do 2 1/2" for $25. I say "ya, fer sure" (Minnesota talk). It will be about $415 when done with 2 1/2 14 guage aluminized, dual pipes out the back, 3 1/2" x 22" stainless cans, and a Dynomax Superturbo if I go with one.

What is going to happen if they put on 2 1/4" pipe without mufflers?

Michael,

I was wondering something. Are you getting a true dual exhaust, that is cutting out the "Y" and running dual pipes from there or single in, dual out muffler with dual pipes? Either way I'd use a muffler. You can go to a-1performance.com to read up on Dynomax. They offer a single 3" kit for your 97 F150(#17367) for $173.95. The dual kit(#17321) is $259.95. It's dual 2 1/2" pipes out the back.

Talking

V10 man,
Last night I had my system installed. I went with a cat-back into a Dynomax Race Magnum muffler into two pipes out the back with 3 1/2" stainless steel cans. The Race Magnum sounds great! It sounds allot like a Mustang (my favorite classic car). It has a good low rumble, not to loud, espcially in the cab. Out the back it's pretty aggressive. The system was a bit spendy but what the heck, my wife even likes it. She even paid for half of it. Does anybody else have such a great wife?
