Dynomax Superturbo
Dynomax Superturbo
I now have had my Dynomax on for about two weeks and glad I made the choice I did. I was dead set on getting the Flowmaster but the money difference made me check out the Dynomax Super turbo. Sounds good when you are at WOT a little rumble at idle and no highway drone. So.......................
ps. the truck runs very strong!

Mlaugh,
Did you only install a dynomax muffler on the stock system? Or did you install a cat back system?
I don't know too much about exhausts, but from what I know the cat-back system includes all the pipe after the catalytic converter.
I have the 99 5.4l engine w/3.55 l/slip. I'm pretty happy with the power of my truck and I wouldn't want to lose any low end torque. But I would like a little better (low, quiet, non-annoying, non-droning-on-highway, ) sound. I would gladly accept a little better mileage as a side benefit.
Would I get the sound and mileage benefit from the dynomax muffler alone? Or should I consider something like a single exhaust gibson cat-back?
The truck is very new, so maybe in a while I'll be longing for more power, but for now...the 260 is enough for me.
Any suggestions anyone? Maybe those of you who've done exhaust-ive (sorry, couldn't resist) research on the subject could lead me in the right direction.
Thanks,
Eric

I took the Dyno Race Mag and just replaced my stock muffler with it. However I have the nastruck and it already came with a set of nice Rouch tips, also I didn't want to change the looks. Iv,e been very happy with the sound and slight added low end torque. By the way it was the oval straight thru design not the bullet.
Eric A, Yes sir thats what I did. Just installed the muffler in place of the old one. Its makes the truck under WOT sound
great and with no highway drone. It also has a little sound at idle. You might get a little more performance with a total cat back system but its your choice. Be careful though if you open the exaust too much you can loose the low end touque. check out the site for Dynomax and A-1preformance they both have a tech/question and answer area. mlaugh

Mlaugh,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I went to the dynomax and a-1performance sites. Not wanting to lose any torque and wanting to save money, I think I will probably go with the "muffler only" solution like you did. It seems like that will suit my needs. It will be a while before I get to do it though...hard tonneau cover comes first..I'm actually lucky to be getting that....actually...I was lucky to get the new truck...traded 97 xlt sc v6. You see...my wife and I have this deal...."1999....year of the house.." so, the next roadtrip is to NC furniture shopping this summer...maybe after all that, I'll get the dynomax. Keep us posted on how you're getting along with the dynomax. Have you seen any mileage improvement with it?
Thanks,
Eric

Mlaugh,
how does it sound? I am still considering Dynomax, Flowmaster and Gibson, either single side swept or super truck, probably single if I do the Gibson, any comments??

WCHAIN........The main issue with me is I did not want to get the highway drone. I just wanted a little rumble and a little more performance. I really wanted to go with the Flowmaster but couldnt handle the price. The Dynomax Super Turbo sounds good under WOT and gave me the slight rumble at idle. I like that. Not real loud but OK. There might be Other Dynomax mufflers that may give you what you want. Visit the Dynomax web site.

I just found out that Jeg's is selling the Dynomax Super Turbo cat-back kit (behind rear wheel exit) w/ s/s exhaust tip that will fit my '98 for $228 delivered. Is this kit worth it, or do ya think I am better off trying to replace just the muffler? I have been reading all of the threads on after-market exhaust systems and don't know which way I should go... Gibson, Flowmaster or Dynomax. Your input would be appreciated.
