Post K&N filter

I'm a new member and anxious to begin upgrading. When subscribers refer to adding the K&N filter are they usually just dropping in the new element or adding on the more expensive kit? What are the advantages or disadvantages besides ease of installation and price?

The K & N Filter replaces your exsisting filter, it's as easy as that.....It costs around 50 bucks (give or take a few) and will increase your gas mileage and HP to Some extent.....the benefits are that is a lifetime filter, you only clean and "recharge" it ( with a kit from K & N ) every 50,000 miles. You will notice a difference when you step on the gas with Throttle Response....as for the negatives, I really don't know of any.....

Is the FIPK kit that much better than the K&N replacement?

HI Darren dude to be honest with you i installed a K/N filter on my 97 F-150 4.6
engine. i did notice a little power increase
but i did however gain a half of a mile on
the gallon on my gas mileage wich i figure
in about 10.000 miles gas being a average of
a $1.00 to $1.15 were i live it will have paid for itself. i think it is $50.00 well
spent plus you never have to buy a filter again. i figure the old paper filter runs
$14 to $16 dollars a piece you buy 3 of them
and you have already spent enough to have
bought a K/N filter. so yes i would recomend
buying one to anyone plus you get a nice
throaty sound under the hood when you get on
it! something you wont hear with a paper air
filter. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Thumbs up

I put in a K&N this weekend along with a set of Flowmasters and the difference is really incredible. I'd keep it the way it is and be happy if I didn't hear about how much bang for the buck you get out of a Superchip. That's coming soon! These trucks are big and heavy and need all the help they can get, so anything you put in is worth it!

I think you are talking about the K&N [FIPK]
FILTER INJECTION PERFORMANCE KIT, this cost
161.00 and will add 12-15 hp.

This topic should fall under "After market" heading, and if it was put up in that topic, you people with questions about K&N and air filter systems could put all the + and - together on what to buy.
There's is questions of concern out there on this issue, someone speak up!.........Dogcam
