Exclamation Check your exhaust after installing...

Hi gang, well I mounted my Gibson side swept a couple of days ago. Went to check it this morning because I heard some creaks under the truck last night. Heat shield that is mounted over the muffler area was rubbing against the Gibson. I easily bent the corner away of the shield and took care of that. However, the tailpipe seems to have shifted in the area between the RR shock and the spare tire. The top plastic dust cover that the shock travels inside of melted due to the heat from the talpipe. Doesn't affect the operation of the shock, but could affect the longevity of it due to debris adhering to the rod that travels inside of the shock. So, guess I'll be crawling under my truck again to loosen clamps and realign that area of the exhaust to center it again between the spare and the shock.

wjt,

You brought up a good point. This area was discussed many months ago but should be pointed out again.

Check your custom exhaust installation frequently for several weeks. With a "bolt on" type the extreme heating and cooling loosens the bolts and it can wander.

Those who originally participated in this post explained those bolts should be torqued as tight as you can reasonably make them. I believe Gibson also recommends this too.
