Thumbs up Flowmaster & V6...What the hey ?

Hey Fellers...

If I put a Flowmaster on my 2000 F150 V6, will it sound
sick, sweet or just somewhat deeper than stock ?

I had a FM 40 original on my 4.2L, single in, dual out with 3" x 16" tips. EVERYONE actually thought I had the 4.6L, no joke. It does sound deep, and louder, but not so much that you can tell it's just a V6. I have never heard a V6 that sounds like the 4.2L does with a FM 40. I wouldn't risk trying anything other than that though, and the tips are a MUST!!! The guys here at work have tried Magnaflow and Dynomax on their V6's (not Ford's) and let me tell you...don't be that guy.

What is this?

Explain what you meant by " chopped airbox " and " removed elbow silencer "

I'm an old cogger, this is all new to me but you seem to have
alot of experience.

Do you have a gallery set up to view ?

Here's mine.

Well, I have a few pics in there: https://www.f150online.com/galleries...ew.cfm?num=213

I crawled under the truck to see which inlet I would need...I believe you need the offset inlet rather than the centered inlet. The outlets are both centered since there are two. I had it custom bent at the same shop I always take my trucks to. I'm on my 6th. setup on my current truck. Duals are going to run you more money because there is twice the pipe involved. I'd say you are looking at $200 - $250 with some chromed tips. However, I recommend using stainless tips, and they will run you $50 - $80 a piece easily. What you might try if money is a concern, is a FM 40 original (offset) single 2 1/2" inlet with (offset) 3" single outlet. Inlet and outlet should both be offset on the same side rather than staggered. Have them put it close to the stock location and slap a large tip right on the outlet of the FM. I'd say 3 x 16 or so. 3 1/2 x 14 would work well too. This should only cost about $45 for the FM, $60 - $75 for a good tip, plus about $75 for labor. You could cheap out on the tip with the "turn-down" as you really can't see it, but it would rust under there during the winter months and would probably need replacing every other year.

I eventually sawed the fender side of the airbox off where it starts to taper down. Acts as an open element with heat shield.

Thanks Fellers

Jackal :

I'm gonna print your instructions out and take them to
the local muffler shop and see what happens.

Thanks a bunch.

Love those pics of your truck. Where'd you get that hood ?
