Any one in Eastern PA had a 5.4L fail the treadmill test. Mine was just given the idle test due to all the newer engines failing the standard test. Chalk another one up for bureaucracy(sp).

The reason I ask, I am installing a Flowmaster Delta 40 series and was told that it was too free flowing for the OBD2 computers to compensate for. 5.0L Mustangs were failing like crazy.

Any input????

Are you sure it was for those reasons?? Here in AZ they don't run some 4x4's on the treadmill. Also, your SD falls into a slightly different testing group because it is over 8600Lbs. Wouldn't the OBD II computer sense a failure and trip the check engine light?? I find it hard to believe that by changing the muffler it would cause emmisions failures.

 

The way the inspection mechanic explained it, the EGR valve does open due to the load applied during the test. These things are so clean, I can't see what that has to do withit. I would think that Ford would have reflashed the computer by now to fix that. I did notice no O2 sensors after the cat either on my 5.4L, only forward of the cat. You might be right about the 8800# emissions regs. Here, above 9000#(not sure exactly) does not need it tested.
