Vortex or Pro Flow mufflers
Does anyone have any experience with either of these? A local muffler/automotive shop comes highly recommended to me. The owner said he performs true dual exhaust systems on F150's without affecting warranty or emission standards. He carries a number of brands of mufflers, but recommends these two brands. I know nothing of either one. He also suggests running the tips out the back near where the hitch would be (if I had one). Any input on that configuration versus the side exit (which I like better from a looks perspective; probably because all the Flowmasters running around exiting out the back).
I have not heard of Vortex, but I have heard of Pro Flow. I believe they are similar to a Dynomax Superturbo muffler, maybe a little quieter though. I have a true-dual setup on my truck w/ Magnaflow mufflers. They are similar to a Dynomax Race Magnum. Deep rumble on the throttle w/ little noise @ cruise. This made a big difference on low and top end, especially w/ Airaid intake. The shop that did my truck carries both plus others.
I had a Vortex, aka "Cherry Bomb" muffler put on my truck this weekend at Meineke Muffler, the first shop Meineke built and the only one he still owns.
I simply swapped out the muffler, and had a chrome tip added to the stock pipes. The sound is great, nice and mellow. Good notes at hard acceleration, hardly any resonance in-cab at cruising speeds. And, combined with the recently added Airaid FIPK, a bit more punch when the hammer goes down.
I was going to go with a Flowmaster 70 series, but the guy at Meineke was quite fond of the Vortex (and he was out of 70 series), and now I see why he recommended it.
