Question Catbacks Vs. Muffler

A bud today ask me why I put a catback system on my truck instead of just changing my Muffler?
I couldn't answer him.
I just did it cause everyone else does.
can someone please inform us both of the difference if any?

Well, I belive that "catback" is basically a complete exhaust system from the catalytic converters to the tailpipe, and of course a muffler is a muffler Alot of people get the "catback" and usually get a bigger diameter pipe than the factory. Just my .02

Odie. The difference between just changing the muffler or adding a cat-back system is the tailpipe section is mandrel bent. there can be a lot to gain buy removing the crimped tailpipe. if you just change the muffler, with a brand thats a proven performer, will will make some gains in horsepower and torque but not as much as a cat-back system made and tuned for your vehicle.

If anyone is looking for a Borla catback side exhaust sytem, let me know. I took this one off my 97 F150 4X4 before selling it (got a new Lightning). I also have a K&N air filter from the same truck (cleaned & recharged). Both items were on for about 15K miles. I'm in the Detroit area if anyone is interested. More info upon request if needed. Thanks!
