Best exhaust for a 93 F-150 and a little advice please.

Guys I am about to buy a 1993 FORD F-150 it's a FLARE SIDE w/custom paint and interior and all that. But the truck is all stock and it really needs a new exhaust. I was looking at the BORLA setup, I don't want flow master because I don't like the way they sound but I still want somthing that will last at least 50,000 miles and will give me a small boost in performance. The truck has the 5.0 302 in it. I didn't look under it but I know that it only has one exhaust coming out on the side of the truck so how does one have dual exhausts without putting in new pipes ? Basically how do you have a cat-back dual exhaust if there is only one cat ? I am new to this american car stuff so try to hang in here with me thanks guys, please giveme all your opinions and suggestions.

When I had my flowmaster installed, at mienkie, they asked me if I wanted one pipe or two coming out and where I wanted it coming out to. In their sales office they also had a large diagrame hanging up that explained everything you ever wanted to know about muffler systems! It sure set me straight about a lot of things. A picture and someone right there explaining things to me helped. On this board, I was able to get enough info to know what kind of muffler I wanted and how many pipes and where I wanted it to go. But the muffler shop "showed" me where everything went. There are other threads that talk about what kind of muffler, you just have to find the one you want and a place to install if you're not doing it. Oh there is also a special at the top of this board under the little mail picture, some kind of header.

Cool

A simple cat-back system usually consists of a single-in, dual-out muffler (or single-out) after the cat, and some aluminized, mandrel-bent pipes (or stainless....borla or gibson)running from the muffler. For the fuel-injected 302, the single-in/dual-out setup with some nice chrome tips would be ideal. Dynomax offers a good, mellow-sounding muffler (around $30), and someone like Midas or Meineke can cut and bend the piping. You should be pleased with the sound and the slight increase in power (esp over the factory single system...ford systems are VERY restrictive). In some cases , a true dual exhaust system can be added. This consists of a separate pipe running off each header/manifold. This setup can be very expensive, especially on a newer vehicle (routing the system around the gas tank can be a pain).

Hope this helps

I used a Gibson super truck cat-back system.
Installed it myself, laying on the garage floor. Toughest job is cutting the old system to remove it. The Gibson system is more mellow and not as loud as the Flowmaster. It has good rumble on decelleration also.

I have a 1993 shortbed F150 with the 5.0 V8 and AOD transmission. I installed the Borla stainless steel system on my truck when it was new (less than 100 miles), and it was the best modification I could have made. The difference in power was very noticable. The factory system is VERY restrictive! The sound is powerful but not intrusive. At 60 MPH there is just a low rumble. No resonnance. I now have 160,000 miles on my truck and the stainless steel exhaust is almost like new. The rest of the truck is in pretty good shape too! If you can't swing the Borla, get a Gibson, but the Borla is worth the extra money.
