F-150 mods

Guys, I need a little help. I have a 97 F-150 Lariat w/ a V8 4.6 and want to spruce it up a bit. I know that there are a bunch of cat back systems and chips but would like to hear what you thinks or rather suggest. I'm looking a nice low rumble . thanks

JJ,
have you thought of trying a custom muffler shop (not midas). I have an excellent system on mine (warranty and all). And they did all the work with a close and thorough inspection by myself. Locally I have used these guys a few times and made many referrals. Just an idea for you. The cost for mine was a resonable $225.

JJ,

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the guys's recommendation, as i mentioned before these exhaust systems are all pretty good its just a matter of preference. Just make sure you find a reputable muffler shop that will do good work. I myself run a Jardine catback and i love the deep throaty sound at idle, with no resonation inside the cabin even at wide open throttle. As far as chips are concerned, in my opinion "Superchip" has no equal, i currently have the Jet chip for my engine & tranny, but this was before i found out about the superchip. If i had to do it all over, it definitely be the superchip. Besides we here online have one of the best superchip distributor in Mike Troyer, he gives excellent customer support but is also very knowledgeable. If your not sure about anything don't hesitate to ask because the guys & gals on this site are very helpful and have a wealth of experience. Good luck on your mods!!!

Thanks a lot guys. I've started the search for a good shop to do the work and may go with a Flowmaster system. Just finished installing a 12-disc changer and new speakers ......more to come...

JJ Harris - I just installed Dual cat back using 2-1/2 pipe w/ a 3 Chamber Flowmaster, It sounds great. I had a custom shop bend the pipe and do the install and the whole job was under $250.00. If your'e not looking for obnoxious, stick w/ the 3 chamber it has a nice mellow sound (at least until you get on it). As far as other mods look seriously at the Airaid and the Superchip, all 3 make a world of difference in the 4.6 and you can do it all for under a grand depending on the exhaust shop. I did it for less than $700.00. Good luck

Thumbs up

My first performance mod was the Superchip and I notice a lot of difference once installed. Then I put in a K&N filter, this seem to make her breath a lil better. I install the Gibson Supertruck exhaust system over the weekend and now this thing will fly!! As least for a truck! For right around $500 you can make that 4.6 pretty awesome, should be about a 40HP gain and I not sure on the torque side.

Good luck with your mods!!
