Gibson SuperTruck on 99 F-150

Hi All,
this is my 2nd post ever to the group, and I hope that I am not ignored this time. I called up Gibson today and asked which exhaust systems would sound decent on a 99 F-150 with the V6, he recommended the SuperTruck Exhaust for the best sound/power and it would sound like a V8....Is this true? Any experiences/questions and comments are welcome!!

Wes

I have a magnaflow muffler on my V6 and at certain R.P.M.s it sounds like a V8. I have seen the Supertruck system and it looks good. Just don't expect the gibson or any other brand to sound like one all the time. After all, it's still a 6.

OK, I'm convinced. Now that I know what system to buy, where can I find it online? A local speed shop can get me a Gibson Super Truck setup for $329 + tax. A competing shop, 15 min away wants $389! Jegs & Summit don't have it. ($329 don't sound so bad right about now) Thanks
Larry

Pick up a copy of Truckin magazine. There are tons of dealers listed. Make some calls. Good luck!

Hi all,

I've got a Supertruck on my 99 5.4. Sounds incredible! Imagine it would be okay with v-6. I bought mine from Truck Performance Center (www.truckperformance.com) for $259.95. Shipping was $31. I switched the sport tips to 3 1/2 inch round tips for no charge (per Gibson suggestion).

RLAFOND,
I've been eyeballing this system for my own ride. Where do the exhaust tips make their exit? (Ahead or behind the tire?) Gibson's online info suggests that it's ahead of the tire. If my thinking is right, wouldn't this create the environment for discoloring the wheel? Please advise, as I'm still interested in this system. Thanks.

Hogluvr,
I talked to Gibson and they are in the process of working out a deal with Summit. Summit is susposed to be handling Gisbon real quick. I am going to wait to see how much it will cost through them.

bilfil,
Summit rates good in my book. Got my bed mat through them. Price was good & delivery was quick. Friendly folks too.
I did look into truck perf, mentioned above. The price was tempting. I am concerned with where the exhaust makes its' exit. After reading the comments about wheels turning green & Ford moving the exhaust behind the wheel, I'd hate to make it a step backwards. The Sport Truck system exits behind the wheel & is the direction I'm leaning towards.

Hey guys & gals,
I Had a 3" "custom" exhaust done on mine through a local customizing shop. Excellent job. They went from the 'Y' with a 3" to a 36" muffler (VERY free flowing, you can see right through it), then it exits dual 3" out the side in front of the rear passenger tire with chrome oval tips. AWESOME sound, it'll scare the hell out of any "shovie" that pulls next to me. the cost was very reasonable and they did the installation w/warranty all for only $225. Look around at custom shops (not midas). You won't regret the performance enhancement or the sound.
