new dual out flowmaster

I have seen some posts about it and went to
the flowmaster website. if you have one
how do you like it? how loud is it? is it available with a choice of muffler to get the right sound ( i know nothing will sound like my 440 or my dad's 351M but for me a little louder is better) how much difference does it make in DB to add headers.

I am planning a trip to PA this summer and have convinced my wife that the money we save in gas with pay for the exhaust system. I have not explained that I like the sound with
gas pedle on the floorboard.

the reason I like the flowmaster is the rear exit on both sides behind the tires

also what was the cost and from who

thanks

Jim, I just had mine installed on Friday morning, The 50 series part no. is 530602 the muffler is huge and cost me 131.99 from Jeg's.
I just can't belive how quiet the thing is.
I took it out to the interstate and open the throttle up and hardly had any interior noise. All this time I been suffering with a Midas turbo muff.with the droning on the highway, belive me you will be happy with the Flowmaster. It give a good throatly rumble in the street. I have the dual split rear pipes with 3.5 tips. All welded on.

Hi MIF-150,

I ordered the Flowmaster 17137 kit (single in dual out muffler, tailpipes to rear for the 1997 F-150) and should receive it on Friday. I ordered it from Legal Performance in Texas (888-336-8001) for $229.00. I noticed in the Flowmaster catalog that the 17137 kit uses a large muffler, a 5" case. The main reason I ordered the kit was for performance and possible mileage improvement. I feel confident I will obtain the performance based on posts on this site.

However, I did want the truck to sound like it has a V8 too. Can you describe how the 530602 muffler sounds like compared to the stock systems. I was hoping for some good rumble and deep tone, but nothing real obnoxious - something that compliments the truck, but doesn't sound like a race car. Does this describe your setup?

Thanks,

DirkR

Hi jhaveron,

Just a quick note, I like how my Flowmaster kit turned out. However, I did have to add two 4" sections of pipe to make it work correctly. I am still researching why that was required. My truck was bone stock before the change. It was a tough job. Anyway, for more info, go to the "Flowmaster" topic if you want to read more about the installation. I detailed it there.

By the way, the 17137 was the only kit for the 1997 trucks. If I had a choice, I would have selected the dual out side.

To: jhaveron, I have a 99 F-150 4.6 and my shop has recommended the Force II, kit 17222, DOR. I expect to have installed by June 11,1999. I wanted the flowmaster sound with low interior resonance.

Say MIF-150, this muffler #530602 is this the Delta-flow? I'm planning on toning mind down with FLOWMASTER 50 Series Delta-Flow #530552.

TripleD and DirkR, Mine does not come in the delta flow version. You don't need it because it's so quiet on the highway you think it's a stock muffler and on the street it just has more rumble than stock. I belive I picked the perfect muffler this time and are very happy with it.

TRIPLED,the delta flow you want is #9425512. i ran the 530552 and lost my low end torque and mpg with it. next i went to dynomax race muffler, then the super turbo with single 3"in and out. it got better but not where it should be. so i talked to a tech at flowmaster and was told that the ford 4.6 and 5.4 motors run better with 2.50" going in to the muffler. so back to the shop i went and had the 70 series #52571 installed 2.50"in and out, but i had the shop keep the 3" pipe out of the muffler . now i`m a happy camper the motor runs great at all rpm`s. if you use the delta flow post on how you like it..ED

EDDIE, I've had the 70 series, 52571, on back order for about 6 weeks and am supposed to receive it this week. I also decided to stay with the 2 1/2" after reading a lot of posts and doing some research. You said your a happy camper.....how many miles since installation? any mileage and performance improvements? How much difference in sound?

JOHNNY, i had the muffler put on friday so i don`t have that many miles yet. but i can tell you that i had a little over 1/4 tank of gas when it went on and got 21 more miles out of this tank than i ever got with the other mufflers.i will have to run through a full tank to see what kind of mpg i will get. as for performance the low and mid range are great now. it has a mellow sound to it not real loud like the others. i feel that it is the perfect muffler. ............ED

Eddie, thanks for the quick reply. Keep us posted. The 52571 is the flowmaster recommended muffler but I think most of the guys want more noise and I think sometimes were confuse the sound for performance.

Has the Ford dealership ever told ya'll that the warrenty would be void if duels were put on your truck? I was on my way to get the flowmaster dual out and I stopped to have that lug nut recall thing done, so while I was waiting I asked the sevice manager. His reply was yes plus the check engine light would come on. I thought he was talking about true duels so I told him that nothing but the muffler would be changed. He said it did not matter.

I believe he is full of you know what. I have put cat-back exhaust systems and headers on just about every truck and car I have ever owned. If you do not remove the cats and any smog devices, they cannot void your warranty unless you put defective parts on or they were improperly installed. Just take your truck to a shop that is knowledgable on the subject of installing after market exhausts and do a little research on the Magnuson-Moss act.
