headers

can anyone tell me if there are any drawbacks if i installed gibson headers on my truck?. how long and complicated of an installation am i looking at? any help will be greatly appreciated.also, will this affect my valves. in the old days you had to tune up your engine in order to avoid damage to your valve due to the air/fuel ratio. i know that today's engines have computers and they shoul or might take care of this, i just would like some feedback on the subject.

There is a post by Cujet on "Gibson single exaust test results" on this page that has some talk of headers. Change your setting to show last year of topics and it will appear.
Good luck.

veloci,
Headers are the way to go.
JBA Racing makes an excellent set of headers and a "Y" pipe to go along with it so that everything from the engine back to the catalitic converter is replaced with matching componnents.
As for the amount of work involved, it won't be easy, removing and replacing everything, will probably take a full weekend or one very long day. Might have to unbolt the motor mounts and jack up the engine to make room for installation.
You asked about engine problems, back in the old days we had to increase the carb jet sizes to correct the air/fuel ratio. With todays electronic systems, the computer will adjust it automatically.
You shouldn't experience any other problems, only an increase in performance and mpg.

Why not go with a matched set, I am looking at Gibson headers and going streight back to a set of Gibson headers, no Cat converters. on Inspection day, I would drop the stock system from the headers back. I am only slightly concerned about what not having the converters on the system might do to the truck. It a 93 5.0 has anybody else done this?

I'm getting ready to order JBA shorty headers. I heard that JBA makes the headers for Gibson. I'll let you know when I get them.

I'v been looking around and have noticed that JBA has a set of Equal length Headers that cost about a $100.00 more than the Gibson. Is having all the pipes Equal lengths worth the extra $$$? I am looking to get my system mid July so I have a few weeks to decide. Also would it be better to take the $100.00 and buy a superchip? Which I also want to do.
