Magnaflow install install problem on 2000 Expy

I bought a Magnaflow catback pn#15608 for the '97-02 Expedition. Here's the problem. My exit pipe from the Y is smaller than 2.5" and too short. I had to pull the entire exhaust system forward and really crunch the front pipe of the catback to grab the Y pipe collector. I'd estimate the Y pipe is only 2.25". All 3 rubber exhaust hangars are pulled diagonally forward now. The Y-pipe is really nice, with a REAL Y-pipe section into which pipes are welded.

It's an accident waiting to happen because vibration is going to allow the exhaust to work it's way backward and the front of the catback will drop on the road causing a pole vaulting 5000lb truck.

I am going to drop the Y-pipe and weld a true 2.5" section on there or maybe even a 3" and cut the neckdown off the front of the catback and expand that piece.

Anyone had a similar problem? It seems to me that Magnaflow should have added an extra section of 2.5" pipe to bridge between the Y and the catback on some these trucks.
