Thumbs up 2004 F150 5.4 FX4 Borla Exhaust

AFTER WAITING A LIFETIME FOR FEDEX (10 DAYS) THE EXHAUST FINALLY SHOWED UP.
I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT THE STOCK EXHAUST WAS ALMOST TOO EASY TO GET OFF. IT TOOK 8 MINUTES. I STARED AT THE NEW BORLA EXHAUST SYSTEM LONGER THAN IT TOOK ME TO INSTALL IT.
THE INSTALL WAS SO EASY. EVERY PIPE AND BRACKET JUST WENT TOGETHER WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. THE ONLY TIME CONSUMING THING WAS GETTING THE 2 EXHAUST TIPS TO LOOK PERFECT COMING OUT THE BACK OF THE TRUCK.
I HAVE SOME PICTURES AND WILL BE TAKING MORE.....DARN BATTERIES WENT DEAD. SOUND BITE WILL FOLLOW.
I DO HAVE TO SAY THAT THIS IS ONE SWEET SOUNDING SYSTEM. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SYSTEM THAT RATTLES GLASS ALL THE TIME, EVEN AT IDLE......THIS IS NOT IT. THIS SYSTEM GIVES OFF A REALLY NICE GROWL WHEN YOU ARE GETTING ON IT. UNDER LOAD IT REALLY SOUNDS AWESOME.BUT, NO LOAD AND SHE BECOMES A SLEEPER. NICE AND QUITE WITH ONLY A HINT THAT SHE IS THERE. WHEN YOU ARE CRUISING DOWN THE HIGHWAY SHE IS PRETTY QUITE.
I HAVE PUT 120 MILES ON THE NEW SYSTEM SO FAR TODAY. I WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING MORE PHOTOS UP AND A SOUND BITE. THE SOUND OF THIS EXHAUST IS VERY DIFFERENT WHEN YOU REV IT UP IN PARK TO WHEN YOU GET ON IT IN DRIVE.

Your new exhaust

Hey Guy, nice ride! When you ordered you exhaust did you up size your pipe diameter, or where the new pipes the same diameter? Were you concerned with blow back or was it not an isue?

I REALLY DIDN'T HAVE TOO MANY CONCERNS WHEN I ORDERED THE EXHAUST. I SPOKE TO A TECH AT BORLA AND TOLD HIM WHAT I WAS PLANNING TO DO WITH THE TRUCK AND HE STEERED ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS EXHAUST. EVERYTIME I DRIVE IT THE SOUND GETS BETTER AND BETTER. THE TRUCK HAS NOT BURNED THRU A FULL TANK OF GAS TO SEE THE MILEAGE GAIN OR LOSS YET. I JUST WANT A TRUCK THAT LOOKS AS GOOD AS IT SOUNDS AND PERFORMS. SO FAR SO GOOD. IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO BUY AN EXHAUST SYSTEM THIS WOULD BE MY CHOICE AGAIN. EASY INSTALL AND NO MODS TO THE COMPUTER. NOTHING TO COMPLAIN ABOUT AT ALL.

Nice system, I am thinking about doing the same but haven't decided on the manufacturer. Any noticable power imporvment?
Did they say how many decibles the system puts out? How close to illegal do you think? Hard keeping the low profile with these trucks and I am afraid adding the sounds attracts more undesired law enforcement attention.

Nice System....I agree 100%!

I just had the Borla Cat-Back put on my 98 F-150 with the 4.6 yesterday.

This is the nicest sounding system I have heard. Like you said, it just has that nice low growl, but it's not obnoxious or anywhere near too loud. It sounds awesome when you open it up, but around town, it is really civil.

At idle or at cruising speed, it is pretty quite. It has a deep baritone growl to it, not that loud crackling I have heard on many of the other trucks running around town.

It definitely gave me a boost in power. Once I pulled out of the driveway, right after it was installed, I actually squealed the tires pretty good - without even romping on it. My 4.6 was always somewhat doggy and dissapointing in the power department, and I was looking for some power gains.

I put a K&N Intake Kit and the Borla exhaust on yesterday.

The Borla really helped my bottom end, and the extra torques is immediately noticeable. You can just feel the truck breathing easier now.

I'd recommend the Borla system to anyone. It's a little pricey, but well worth it in my opinion.

I've been out cruising all day just to listen to it. :-)

I SHOULD HAVE MY SUPERCHIP IN A WEEK OR SO. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING ALL THE FACTORY SETTING PUT TO SLEEP SO I CAN WAKE THIS 5.4 UP. I AM FINDING MYSELF ROMPING ON THE GAS ALL THE TIME BECAUSE THE EXHAUST SOUNDS SO DAM GOOD.
I AM STILL WORKING ON A SOUND BITE .......IT WILL BE COMING SOON.

I hera ya! We went driving around yesterday just so I could listen to it too! :-)

The Borla really does sound better than any other system I have heard. It's hard to keep your foot out of it because it sounds so good when you romp on it.

I love the power increase. My 4.6 actually runs half-way decent now. That's always been my biggest dissapointment with the truck. I bought it used, so I didn't have much choice in the engine size.

Which chip are you looking at? That was my next item I wanted to add as well, but am still researching the different chips out there.

Was actually also looking at some Throttle Bodies too.

I just ordered an awesome functional Ram Air hood from of all places, on Ebay! Checkout the listings for the seller "fiberglassfabusa" on ebay. They have some awesome Ford Truck Hoods, functional and non-functional! And, they have great prices.

My tires & wheels should be in next week, and once I get the hood painted/mounted and the wheels/tires mounted, I'll post some pics.

Love the Borla!

I actually got mine on ebay as well. And, at an awesome price - $430.00 plus shipping (which was VERY reasonable).

The seller's Ebay ID is "mystic671".

He has another Borla Exhaust up for auction this week, for a 98-02 F-150.

Here's the link to the auction page -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=7921126761

I had my exhaust in less than a week from when I won mine from him, and it was brand new, in an un-opened Borla Box.

Hope this helps,

Jay
