3" or 2 1/2' (continued)

OK crew here's the deal... There are alot of people out there that need some REAL help(me, included) on a simple topic. I say it's simple because I'm sure that to those who understand it, it's simple, but to us clowns who don't, it becomes a "sh**, I shouldn't have done that" mod. I pose this question for gaining more power(in my case, I want low end power in a 2002 screw 5.4)...

1) if the exit from the manifold is 2 1/2" then why expand it to 3'"(other than looks and sound) if it creates less backpressure resulting in less torque.

2) I'm sure there's a point that you need to uncork the plug to get better torque and HP, when is it. Is it after a simple filter system upgrade, power modulater upgrade, when is it time to let our engines breathe better?

My thoughts:

Our engines seem like they breathe well already(on the exhaust end), and from what I have learned on this AWESOME sight, our engines can only process a limited amount of fuel/air. So to me, it seems logical to start there... increase the amount of air and fuel into the engine, then uncork her so she can breathe. Isn't that what a turbo/supercharger does? It kicks more air into the engine so it can burn more fuel and create more power, even so, it would make sense to me that if you already have a charger that it can still only process a set amount of air in any give time.

Bottom line:
Given the fact that I have a 1715 and a K&N FIPK, should I do a SI/SO 3" or 2 1/2"? Or should I even think about duals with the current mods?

Thanks for your help and PLEASE DON'T BE JERKFACES WITH EACH OTHER!!!

My last thread on this subject was closed because of very smart people that couldn't respectfully disagree!

Thanks,
Scott

Scottie,I pretty much did the same as you but I also installed header's and a 180 t-stat and I ran a new exhaust with a 3"in and 2 2.5" out.

For more than half a century, exhaust shops have used pipe sizing charts as a general reference. Here is an example:
