Catalytic Converter????

I think my catalytic converter is broken and need help determing if that is what it is and $. Does my 1999 F150 even have one? I cannot find any site that has a price for one. There is a "box" under the passenger side of the cab, it is after the 2 exhaust pipes come together as one. There is another smaller type box further down under the bed. I thought the one on the passenger side of the cab was the catalytic converter. It is making a noise similar to a broken garbage disposal. Which is typical when it starts to break up, right? Can you help me????

i do not think that is your Cats. i have a 1999 F150 and im sure that all late model car/trucks/SUVs have cats because its the law. There are 4 cats two on each side. The cats are right by your engine. They are stupid looking. You can tell where they are because from the headers there is about 6 inches i guess then a cat and its at the bend of the pip then directly after that is the other cat and the same on the other side. ummm and about the garbae disposal sound...i have no clue but im pretty sure its not the cats. because if they were "broken" your truck will sound very loud. Hope that helps...id get more opinions other than mine though
Thanks Maroon. Hopefully someone can tell me what it is. It can't be the muffler, because that is down near the end of the exhast, but if your right, it's not the cat either, it's too big...I know I don't have 4 of them, and it's not 6 inches from the block.
sounds like maybe it's just the cat heat shield. when the shield becomes loose it rattles like that. if you can get underneath when the truck is cooled off just start hitting along the pipe with your hand starting at the muffler and work your way to the motor. you might be able to determine where it is coming from better. when the inside of the cat becomes loose it does rattle also. if it is just the shield, just tear it off and throw it out. there's no need to fix it unless you want someone to weld it back in place.
does your truck seem to have less power? like Maroon said, unless your truck has been modified there should be at least one if not 2 between the muffler and the motor. good luck.

Thanks guys!
It is my cat and I do have 2. The right one, which is larger, is the broken one. Too add to my pain, I bought my truck while living in California, soooo I have to buy a even more expensive part ($700) because I need the correct OBD2 sensor. My truck exceeds federal standrds and a you can't just put any cat on my truck. But thanks for your help!!!! And now I found this, so I'll be back next time something goes wrong.
