95 Couger Question

My buddy has a 1995 Couger. He just put a flowmaster exhaust on it, and it's not his taste. Too mellow and not loud enough. It has the small V8. What can he do to make the car louder? Does it have the OBD I computer in it allowing him to replace the cat with straight pipe? I think that would louden it up a bit. Didnt find any sites I could really post this on, please help as much as you can. The mufflers on the car are different from most. The inlet through the end, but exit through the side, so he cant change mufflers really unless another brand makes them specifically for his car. THanks a bunch.

Remove the muffler totally and add resonater tip. Or replace muffler with supertrapp muffler and tune it to your tastes?

95 cougar/t-birds with 4.6 have obd-2 diagnostic connectors and will function as obd-2 but everytime i go through emmissions test they use the sniffer probe because obd-2 wasnt required till 96 and they dont know any better. if you remove cats engine light will come on unless you use o2 simulators. i was having trouble with my egr valve and it was time to test so i pulled the light out of the dash and ran it through and it past.

has he tried just running straight pipe?

when i did egr i had exhaust off at the manifolds and started it up and it wasnt really as loud as i thought it would be straight headers.

He hasnt run straight pipe. Where could get get O2 simulaters for his car? Would he need 1 or 2? Should I tell him to remove the CAT first with the mufflers still on it and get an SES, so if he likes it be can buy an O2 sim or should he remove mufflers first?

im sure summit or jegs would carry o2 simulators for it.

wonder if it would be louder if he ran it all through 1 pipe instead of splitting it. ford used to use the split 2 muffler setup on tauruses and went to a single muffler got like 15 more hp and saved like 20 pounds. but it doesnt look as cool.

is he running the 40 series flowmaster i hear that is the loudest.
you should do some reading over at the thunderbird cougar club site http://www.tccoa.com/ these guys are cool they are droppin 5.4L and 4.2L in their birds.
