Lightbulb Strait Pipes

Hello all. New to this websight so ill be introducing myself. I picked up my f150 with a meer 100 thousand for 3 grand. Mearly because the previous owner didnt know what was wrong with it. (bad coil on #4). Im wanting strait pipes on her so shes got more kick and more sound. I cant afford the aftermarket kits and the ones ive heard are dumb. I heard someone here had a black 2wd truck f150 with strait pipes on it and it sounded awsome. My question is this. will eliminating the muffler hirt the truck. Ive had muffler shops tell me it will backfire and not run right cuz for lack of backpressure. I dont want to hirt the truck but i want it to sound bad and not break the walet. What do ya think.

hey i got straight pipes and i love them. i have duals so its pretty loud. i knew going into it i would lose backpressure, which losing some backpressure is good. i anticipated the truck would lose a little bit of low end torque and gain high end torque. to be honest i didnt see any difference rather then when i had a flowmaster on it preformance wise. one thing i like about it is that it pops a lot. to me, there is not a muffler loud enough. thats just my opinion. my buddy has straight pipes on his ford w/ out duals. its sounds pretty good to, but mine is a tad louder. it wont cost over 35 dollars to get your muffler taken off, and maybe an extra 15 dollars to make a custom y pipe if you have dual exhaust.

p.s. i went to three muff. shops to get estimates, not one of them told me it would harm the truck. and i've done a lot of research on the net before i put straights on, and i never read any cons about it other than being to loud b/c of being too close to a cop or somethin.

ive got straight pipes with dual tailpipes on my 4.6 and it sounds really good. Didnt really notice any power changes other than maybe a little high end gain. It sounds great! Hasnt caused one problem with my motor, runs good as new!

i've got straights on my 5.4 and yeah it pops, but as long as its not like a cannon goin off you're fine.and that means you have another problem.i have STRAIGHT pipes, gutted cats and true duals,so if there was gonna be a problem i'd have it.mine runs perfect and sounds like a demon gettin sprayed with holy water

pull the negative terminal to your battery, let it sit with the lights/ignition on for 10 minutes, then hook it all back up and drive it for a few minutes. This resets the computer which your supposed to do after any service to your truck.

You didnt mess with the cats did you? If you did, your oxygen sensors could be screwed up.

Is there a check engine light on?

NO DIDNT MESS WITH THE CATS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FLASHED FOR LIKE 20 SECONDS THEN IT JUST STOPED. sO IM SUSPOST TO PUT MY CAR WITH THE IGNITION ON AND TURN THE LIGHTS ON BUT DONT START IT FOR 10 MINUTES. THEN AFTER 10 MINUTES START IT WITH THE LIGHTS AND STUFF ON AND HOOK UP THE BATERY CABLE AND ALL SHOULD BE GOOD.

check your plugs and make sure there's no moisture under the boots cause that's what causes them to misfire most of the time and if it is wet get you some new cop boots.if you just cut the muffler off it shouldn't change much at all.but if you gutted or removed the cats you need to put a 1/4 ohm resistor in the downstream o2 sensor signal wires (gray wire) that's all i can tell ya.i ran my truck with JUST the manifolds on and it still ran pretty good,no o2 sensors nothin, just the manifolds.so if anything would make it run bad that's be it.i didn't drive it hard or anything just from outside over into the shop, maybe 1-200 feet but it didn't mis or anything.so i don't think your exhaust is whats doin it,i'm sure it has to be somethin else

its been a while since i wrote this but i thought id tell you guys what happened. Maybe it was chance maybe it was fate but when it was in the muffler shop another c.o.p. went bad. After i replaced it ran fine. Now when some idiot took the cats off thts a different story.
