new magna flow/K&N FIPK = less power???
I just installed my new K&N FIPK Gen II and magna flow 15749 which is SI DO. well yesterday after reconnecting the battery and starting it up, it was very very sluggish. I know that it takes the cpu a while to re-learn everything. But after a 2hour trip (there and back) and driving some this morning it still seems a bit sluggish off the line. Also at a half a tank i usually get 200+ miles... right now i'm at 125. Now when the K&N was first installed i started it for about five minutes without reconnecting the air sensor... not the MAF but the other one. You could smell it dump gas baaad. After that was hooked up it went away and that could be why the mileage sucks. but i'm still very concerned. Anyone have any advice or know what's going on. ANY advice would be appreciated i'm new to this stuff.
How many times did you floor it to check out the performance?
Similar mods on my 2000 5.4 for 4 years didn't cause lower mileage or sluggish behavior. I would go over the FIPK install closely. If the filter came over-oiled, the MAF could have oil on the elements. You could clean the MAF. Just an idea.

Don’t panic, because a Magnaflow muffler and a K&N air filter definitely doesn’t subtract HP and gas mileage. Recheck your FIPK install, then disconnect the battery for about a minute then start it up and let it idle until it reaches operating temperature. That should reset everything correctly.
*SIGH* The performance finally evened out after driving a bit. It's great now... i can't talk about it enough! I'm having fun with these 4-banger and there stupid catbacks that sound like go-carts... they look pretty silly when they rev up those little engines that make that awful noise... then i let the 5.4L growl... no comparison. Trust me in West Knoxville there are lots of rich-kids who have blown lots of money on cars like that. anyhow... now that i've done my first set of mods, i think i want to do a little more. Nothing major just some stuff to get some more HP.
Throttle body spacer?
MAF?
Throttle Body?
needs some ideas... nothing really $$$

troykshafer, best advice to give is contact troyer performance. over in the chip section and ask them. you've already added two of the four best bang for the buck items the other two are headers and CPU (chip / programer) upgrade.
i have looked/talked to troyer performance. my next purchase will probably be the newer microtuner. althought eventually i would like to replace the headers i am sure that will be a big drop in gas mileage and this is my DD. I'll probably hold off on the headers until 2006 when i buy my new mustang cobra
The tuner is probably the better fit for me since i am not serious enough to want a turbo.
