Which exhaust to get? True duels, SI-DO?

Im trying to get some imput on which exhaust system to get for my 5.4

Anyways I have decided on duel exhaust but not sure if i should get true duels or what?

I really want to put magnaflows on it... I want a deep sound that when at idle is not that noticeable but when accelerating you can deffenetly be heard.

That and i like the tips...

Looking to spend less then 400 bucks though...

Also considered putting some high flow cats on too... I don't want to lose gas milage or performance.. But i do plan on modding the motor in the future...

What should i do and order? Looking to order stuff as early as tomorrow...

SI/DO vs SI/SO

I called Magna Flow and asked them what was better here is what they said...

for perfomance SI/SO is better, more HP and better gas mileage with a decent sound.

for sound si/do is better but you will give up 4-5hp compared to the gain with si/so. The gas mileage increase won't be as great either.

hope this helps

But a SI/DO is still better then stock on gas milage and hp? This truck is for my gf... So Like most girls they would rether it look good then perform...

Thanks a lot for the info..

yes, if she's more into looks i suggest the 15749 SI/DO from magnaflow. I've been researching for a long time... 4-5months on what i wanted. Gibson and Borla are supposed to be decent but the consensus around here seems to be magnaflow.

I just ordered mine from performance peddler along with a Gen II FIPK from K&N for $590... that's an awesome price. You have to call to get their real prices because they can't list them on their website.

ps. 15749 is a bolt on kit, from what i've read it takes about 45-1hr to install...

sorry didn't answer this... SI/SO will give more HP and mgp than SI/DO... but SI/DO does give a HP and mpg increase just not as much.

What about using the SI/SO muffler but then splitting the pipes via a Y-pipe?? Would this still decrease the HP/Torque as stated earlier with a SI/DO???

that should restrict the airflow even more...im going with a si/do muffler thats what a lot of people said on this website would be the best way to go to get dual tips but still gain torque and horsepower...

It's been a year and a half since I've had my exhaust system installed.

I went with 2 carsound (Magnaflow) high-flow cats, a stainless steel Magnaflow X-pipe and 2 SI/SO glasspacks similiar in design to a Magnaflow muffler, but a bit louder. I also had my exhaust guy make me a new 2.5" crossover that had less abrupt bends in it for better flow. It's now 2.5" from collectors to tips.

The difference in this setup and my previous Flowmaster 50 series SI/DO is night and day. A phenominal gain with the shorty headers I had put on the year before. I'd say I picked up a good 15-20 hp over and above what the Flowmaster ever did.

If you're seroius about getting every last HP out of the truck, no single setup can beat a well-engineered true dual setup. I gained low-end torque; the truck absolutely rockets from a standstill, and will leave both tires spinning if I'm not careful.

High RPM sound and horsepower available is unending. It's really amazing what it did to open up the engine.

Including the two cats, X-pipe, and mufflers I bought, it ran me right at about $500 total.

Can you give me some more info and maybe pics of your exhaust setup. Specifically the cats, what type and sizes did you use? I'm looking for more sound and suspect the cats may be clogged and/or worn out.

Right now I have the stock cats, y-pipe and 2.5in intermaediate pipe going into a SI/DO FloPro muffler (cheap Flowmaster knock-off) with the dual 2 1/4 tips with 3in x 18 SS tips. It sounds great at idle and under load. Drops off at crusing speed. If I go as far as replacing cats I might as well have true duals, if I have true duals no sense in keeping stock manifolds. Yea I get to deep into everything, it's a habit. Thanks
