newbie with a question
Hey! I just bought my new bad boy this January (2004 F-150, supercab, XLT, 4.6). I am in the process of (with some help of course
) revamping it, inside and out. I have been doing some reading on here about dual exhausts and getting the truck to sound louder...well, after talking with some people, well here is my question...with living in NW Indiana we have emissions testing every few years. What can I do to make my truck louder without breaking the emissions laws? We have to have mufflers and cats on our vehicles, period, so they will pass the testing required. My vehicle is new but in four years I will have to get it tested. Well hopefully by then I will have my truck the way I want it, but I also don't want to get busted either. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum 4X4.
First, I'd call the local city and state offices for the codes (law) and request the statute #'s to see exactly what is and is not allowed. Document who you spoke to, when and where. Once you have the numbers (or a web site) you can probably look them up yourself.
Some states say you must have a muffler while others have noise decible limits.
Also contact your local emission tester and ask what they will pass or fail you for when the time comes to be inspected.
And finally, please note that all these dam* laws are subject to change at a moments notice, without telling you and are further subject to interputation by the cop, inspector and/or judge.
Sucks huh?
