new exhaust system for '88

I have an '88 F-150 4x4, 351 automatic.

It has no cat and no pipe past the muffler. I have to get it smog legal in Texas. I am preparing to put duals on it. The guy at the local muffler shop recommends a DIDO cat into a true dual system with glasspacks. Opinions? How long should the glasspacks be. I'm thinking 24 inches. I want it to be a low sound, not just noise, but I don't want it too quiet.

I have also looked at a Dynomax system with both pipes exiting on the passenger side. I just don't know if I'll get the sound I want and I certainly don't know if I want to spend the extra $100.

What do you guys think.
