True Duals on 2002 F150

I currently have a bone stock 2002 F-150. I previously had a Mustang GT and I miss my loud car. I want to know what the best approach is for getting my truck loud! I'm not talking Nascar loud (I am in cali (land of the smog ****'s). I would like true duals, but I would want a nice X pipe or if avail H pipe w/ some good sounding grumbling mufflers (flowmasters sound tinny to me). Is there someone who makes a pretty easy to install kit or am I looking @ a bunch of custom work that I'll never be able to get a muffler shop to do?

magna flow

do a search here for magna flow. the cat back system is a direct replacement for stock. love mine. muffler shop did custom for me, new pipe from cat to muff and from muf to tip (used 2.25") with 3" s/s tip. with small pipe you lose less low end torque.

kit from troyerperformance.com

Magna Flow look great, but

I'm looking for something True Dual. I definitely want this thing louder. When I switched the Mustang w/ a MAC offroad H-Pipe it screamed, that's what I'm looking for. I was wondering how the X pipe gets installed. I'm kinda new to the F-150, but I'm guessing it currently has a Y pipe coming off the manifold into a single pipe. To do the True Duals wouldn't I need to get new pipes from the headers into an X or H pipe, then get the rest done from there?

On mine the guy just cut the y pipe out right infront of it(y pipe) and welded separate pipes onto those pipes coming from each exhasut manifold. I dont know if 02's are the same but on mine(99) both pipes had to be ran down the passengers side because the gas tank was in the way, then when it got the the rear axle he ran one pipe over the axle and around the spare out the back(split tips). So the stock pipes from the manifolds to about the rear of the transmission can stay(unless you want new pipe there)

X pipes are easy to put in, just cut out a chunk of the 2 pipes and weld it in.

Im not real sure of anyone who makes a true dual setup, although Ive heard Bassani does, but Ive never been able to find it myself(didnt see it on their site or anything)

It would be cheaper to just have a shop custom make some. Its not real hard, and mine only cost about $225, instead of 4-500 for a Magnaflow or anything like that.

I found a shop

I called a local shop and the guy told me that for $550 he would bulid a whole new exhaust system w/ the flowmasters I just have to bring the X pipe. But at least I'll have the whole exhaust system to swap back in to pass smog. Does that sound good? Is this going to be too loud?

FYI...

I've read in here that a "true" dual set-up doesn't make the truck run better. I know you're looking for the sound, but coming off a mustang to a truck had to be quite the adjustment, and I'm sure you'd hate to lose power just to get a better sound.

Just my opinion.

It just depends how it(dual exhasut) is set up. Alot of people think you lose power and they make it run worse, but its all in the design of the system. Get the right size pipe and get your backpressure right, and it will be just as good if not better than any single pipe system

I stand corrected... that surely makes sense. Guess it's just like everything else in life...ANYTHING can be done half a**ed!
