4.6 True Dual?

I have a 4.6L V8 and I dont know weather to take out the Y pipe and put an X-pipe in and run true Dual, or to just get a muffler with dual outs? is the true dual louder? also I want information on mufflers i know Flowmaster is supposebly bad and I dont like the sound of MagnaFlow, I was thinking maybe a BORLA muffler i have heard all good things from them

Thanx for the site

That site helped a little, but I have heard that True Duals on such a small V8 can decrease horsepower and tourque also. Is there any body out there that uses BORLA mufflers if so, what do u think. I want the loudest rumbling sound I can get

Like you saw mine are Flowmaster but i can garauntee you that with a 4.6 you will not lose HP with true duals. i dont have access to a dyno but i think i gained at least 20HP with mine.

as long as you keep a smaller size exhaust pipe you should be fine. Put 2.25 or 2.5" and you should be ok. These guys that put on 3 inch pipe wtih no mufflers are the ones that lose power

i had true duals with flowmasters. I lost some low end power or actually the power band just moved. My mid to upper rpm's were great. Highway kicked ***.

I since changed to a single magnaflow muffer that is dual in/out. But come spring time that will be gone and will be going back to flowmasters, super 40's.

Go w/ a spintech muffler. They are bad ***. I had them on my mustang and my roomate did as well.
They sound awsome and make real power.
On a 4.6 mustang they replaced the factory h-pipe w/ 4 cats w/ an x pipe w/ 2 cats and spintech mufflers. at the wheels it put down 29hp

I have a magnaflow SI/ DO muffler on my truck but am looking at putting headers and an x-pipe on there w/ spintechs.

Trust me they are awsome and reasonable priced.

i've thought about the spintechs in the past. How close to flowmaster do they sound?

I don't think they sound very close to a flowmaster but other people that don't know what they listening to might say it sounds like a v8 w/ exhaust. They have a unique sound that will set you apart from the flowmaster and magnaflow crowd.

On my mustang w/ just the mufflers it wasnt a loud obnoxios sound and when you gave a little more gas than was needed it was greatness.

trust me you will not be dissapointed w/ the sound or performance

The X-pipe will be the key to making good torque. Keep pipe size at 2.5" or slightly smaller. Don't go smaller than 2.25" or you will lose power there, too. Go with a straight-through muffler for the best gains. If you can get away with it, get some Carsound cats and do your cats and crossover pipe at the same time for the absolute best gains.

On my 97 with the 4.6 i went 2.25" all the way from where they cut the Y pipe into dual flowmasters to 3.5" tips. Now i have a single magnaflow thats 2.25" openings with the built in x pipe. I feel that my mpg has gone down since i installed this muffler. Is it possible that I did loose mpg with this setup. Feels like there's to much back pressure with the crossover.

Is the exhaust different from 97 to 98 besides the exit point? I have a 97 5.4 and was thinking about getting the spintech cat back system. Will it work? If all that I need is a hanger or two that is no big deal but if there is something else to consider. Are they loud? I just want it to have a nice growl not the annoying flowmaster sound.

the only difference was on the early build 97's the stock exhaust exited before the right rear wheel. But there was a TSB on it and if you wanted it fixed they fixed so it exited to where you see it now.
