Finally they are installed.

I had the new super 40's installed today on my 97 f-150 4x4 w/ the 4.6. the setup that I went with is dual mufflers. cut it at the Y behind the cats did dual exhaust and did a side exit in front of the passenger rear.

as far as sound it was exactly what i was looking for. There is virtually no interior resonance, even on the highway at 65-80mph. when outside of the vehicle the sound is a lot like the late model camaro Z-28s. it is a very aggresive exterior sound, but not too loud. I have the original 40 series on my 94 mustang gt. and the sound of the two mufflers is completly different, but still a flowmaster sound.

Horsepower? I have only had them on for a day and haven't really had a chance too see if there is a difference in performance. right now I think that maybe I should have gone with the single in dual out muffler. but i will wait and see.

I am going to try and post pictures in my gallery and hopefully if i can get it to work a few sound clips also. i will update in this topic when i get the pictures on.

any questions or comments post them here.

thanks

hey man comparing the sounds of the original 40 and the super 40, what is the main difference? Is the super 40 deeper? is it louder on the exterior? can you just explain the difference in the sound? i have an original 40 and i was thinking about getting one, but mainly for the sound. so if you could explain the difference i would appreciate it. thanks

Please bear in mind that these are only two days old and the sound will probably change as they get broken in.

The main difference is the really the tone. At idle it is much deeper. On the road it is actually pretty quiet( inside and out). Also, there is really no resonance. On the highway the only thing you really hear is the sound of the exhaust. There is no interior resonance from the muffler and if you turn up the radio just a little you cannot hear the exhaust. I did the side exit in front of the right rear tire. If they exited out the back I don’t think that you would really be able to hear them.

It is hard for me to compare the sound of the two mufflers because I have the original 40’s on a 94 mustang GT. The 5.0 and the 4.6 are much different.

The super 40 gives off a really good aggressive sound without being loud and obnoxious. If you want loud then stay with the original. If you want quieter and aggressive go with the super 40. If you do a lot of highway driving I would recommend the super 40.

well right now i have a 40 series with DF and its not all that deep and its really not that loud either. i was looking for somthing that is deeper, i don't really care about how loud it is. i just need it to be deeper. i have a 4.2 so i was wanting a deeper tone. my friend has a original 40 and his is quite a bit deeper than mine. so i was hopeing a super 40 would be deeper than the original. so pony do you think it is alot deeper and would be worth gettting in my situation since i am just wanting deeper?

sorry but i forgot to mention that i definately wanted a more aggressive sound as well as deep. the 40 with DF is not really aggressive sounding at all. it is rather smooth sounding. i want my sound to be alot more aggressive. so will it be more suitable than my 40 with DF?

hey guys, got my flowmaster 40 with a magna flow tip. just waiting for some dough to install it. i have a 5.4 on my baby, and the only thing is that the flowmaster has a 3 inch in and out. i have 2.5, so we will see what the muffler guy says. i think that just putting on a 2.5. to a 3 inch cuff will do it and not loose any power. i hope that the bee-atch is loud!! will get back soon with the info

03stx,

the best way that i can help is that the muffler makes the motor sound much bigger than it really is.

If i recall you were wanting to know what it would sound like on the 4.2. this is my opinion but i think that it would probably sound pretty good.

since you already have a flowmaster on their it would be a fairly simple swap. buy a new one, put it on, and save the old one. if you dont like it, sell it on e-bay, if you do like it then sell the old one on ebay.

it really is hard to explain the difference in the sound of the two mufflers w/out hearing the two of them on the same motor.

however, if you, or anyone else is ever in the tulsa or stillwater, OK areas, i will be happy to show them off to you.

hope this helps and let us know what you end up doing.

03stx or anyone else

e-mail me through f150online and i will send you a .wav file of the exhaust.

this will give you a real good idea of what the exhaust sounds like with the super 40

Lets make this a little easier. E-mail me @ mustngpny50@***.net. I haven't recieved anything through f150 and don't think that there e-mail system is working because I tried sending myself a message and haven't recieved it and that was sunday night and now it is monday night.

so just e-mail me and i will send you the sound clip. Its not the best recording but will give you a good idea on what it sounds like.

Thanks,
mustngpny50
