Tailpipe

I bought my 97 F150 used and am displeased wiht one thing. The tailpipe comes out in front of the rear tire, although this might sound fine, in actuality it is stripping the finish off of my rims. Has anybody found a work around for this? I tried to buy a new tailpipe however there doesn't appear to be one. I am looking for a cost effective solution to this problem.

Thanks.

You can try taking it to the dealer to have it moved. I know there is a TSB to cover that free of charge, but there may be time/mileage rescrictions.

Thanks APT, I went to the dealer & he said it would cost me quite a bit, and couldn't get a real straight answer out of him, so I went the Auto Parts route. They were also of no use. I purchased a tailpipe from the 98 model & it is off by about one foot, so I was going to cut the pipe & lengthen it (in the right spot), but before I did that I wanted to see if there was a product out there already.

Just go to a exhaust shop.

Yeah, any muffler shop worth anything should be able to bend up a tail pipe for you....... My 97 had the rear exit tail pipe already, but when I bought a Gibson SS for it, it was designed for the 97's that had the front tail pipe, so it included the necessary brackets and such to go out the back.

Only thing with going to a muffler shop is that they probably won't have a mandral bending machine...... The Gibson 3" tail pipe is mandral bent, but cost $300 with the POS muffler that was included with it, but that's another story!

Good luck!

Magnaflow has a single 3" mandrel bent tailpipe that exits behind the stock wheel as well. You'll have to make some new hangers or have a shop install it, though. #15038
