Cool magnaflow question

i don't hope this is taken wrong...or i might be wrong any way.

i have recently heard that the magnaflows are essentially glasspacks..

is that good or bad? or even true?

i have been considering them, and a few other brands. Flowmaster has a new SUPER 40 coming out that is suposed to be sweet!

still not sure which brand will perform better and sound great.

i like my flowmaster single right now..but..want a little more bang in the sound

Magnaflow has straight through design mufflers, except the XL Line which is a baffle type similar to many Flowmasters. Glasspacks also are straight through, but generally they are only 3-4" in diameter. Although Magnaflow does sell soem 4" round mufflers, their whole line is straight through.

Sorry, I don't know much about glasspacks, other than they are small tube-like chambers.

They are similiar in the fact that both use a straight-through design with a packing material for sound damping. I'm no expert on Magnaflows, but from what I can gather, the packing material that Magnaflow uses is different. Also, I believe that the cores in most glasspacks are louvered (think cheese grater), while Magnaflows are smooth perforated cores. And, like APT said, Magnaflow muffleres are built like more of a "normal" muffler size and shape, instead of glass packs, which are just tubes that aren't that much bigger than your exhaust pipe, with a thin wall of packing.

They both have totally different sounds. Magnaflows produce a mellow rumble, while glasspacks have a really loud crack to them.

Magnaflow uses some type of rockwool packing, I remember seeing it on a mustang forum where a magnaflow rep was a member.
