Install Question

How hard was the install for anyone putting on the Magnaflow catback in their driveway?? I'm probably like the rest where I'd rather do it myself, but was wondering if there is enough room underneath to manuever everything.

And how many kept the clamps vs. getting it welded on?

Just wonderin' . . . .

I just had mine done 10/31, but let a shop do it for $80.
I could have done it myself. I had rolled under my truck a few days before with all the parts to test fit them and it was no problem. They got the old system off easily. My truck is only 10 months old so the pipe wasn't siezed at the stock Y. That's the hardest part to getting stock system off.

If your doing the dual system, we had some problems with the tailpipe hangers they supply. They want you to replace 2 of the bolts that hold the hitch on with the adjustable hangers. We didn't think the bolts would be strong enough so we didn't use them. Kind of a waste. We also had a few strap clamps that didn't want to clamp tight enough so there is some welding.
Welding makes it permanent, with the clamps you can always remove or adjust it.

If you do it youself make sure you keep everything loose until you have it all fit in there right , then tighten everything.

If you want to know anything else just ask.

I installed mine in the garage, does that count? It was easy, took maybe two hours from start to finish including a beer break. The only pain was cutting off the old tail pipe behind the muffler, with a hacksaw. I used the clamps that came with it and have had no problems, but the instructions do recommend tightning them after about 25 miles, which I did. It has remained tight after that initial "warm up" period. I have been extremely pleased with the system.

thanks for the input

finding out if there was cutting involved and whether you had enough room to manuever the old pipes out of the way was really what i was curious about. i didn't know if there was enough clearance without jacking the truck up. i was debating on waiting till after winter to get the SI/SO catback (1 less winter to hog it up, along with winter gas) or just throw the money down now and do it.

and what's up with the those new tips? the 2 look-in-1 looks a bit cheap.

i appreciate the comments.

Here's the tip I was talking about (that looks cheap to me)

I was under the impression that this was the new tips, and the solid 1 piece units are gone. If I'm mistaken, please let me know.

Nope, you are right, that's what mine looks like if I get down on the ground and look up into it, which I rarely do. I think you'll be surprised how good it does look in person. I had the same concern after seeing that exchange but it looks great installed.

That's strange that they did it that way. Maybe they did it to make the install easier.
My SI/DO had clamp on tips, 3 1/2 X 18. They slip over the tailpipe by about 4" so it's not enough to see the tailpipe. I read somewhere that they did that so the tips don't discolor from the heat.
It still looks good so don't be disappointed. If you really hate it you could always cut it off and weld a new tip on.
