Cool Will Mustang Headers Work??

I have a 1997 Ford F150 Lariat 4x4 4.6L V8. My son just put a brand new exhaust from his Mustang and I have a question. Would the headers from his 5.0L V8 work on my truck? Also, what type of response would I recieve if I put on stright pipes after the headers?? I appreciate your help.

I don't think that headers for a 5.0 will fit a 4.6. If they do, though, let me know, because I have a 97 4x4 Lariat with a 4.6, too, and I need some headers.

No way can you install 5.0 headers on a 4.6. Two completely different cylinder head designs. Not only would they not bolt up, I bet the header outlet wouldn't be located in a spot that would allow you to plumb in the rest of the exhaust system.

Buy headers for the application.

Good luck

Even if both had a 4.6 they still wouldnt fit. The fact is that headers are very application specific for most vehicles.

The location of the engine in the chassis, the location of the accessories and other items in the engine bay differ so much from car to car that very few would be interchangeable.

If you look at things like steering columns, master cylinders, upper A-frames, and even the chassis rails you'll notice that they are in totally different places. The collectors might be too high or too low. the smog fittings would prolly be different as well. There would be clearance problems galore.

Even if you were a competent fabricator the work involved to make them fit would make it cheaper & easier to just get the ones meant for your vehicle. If you want to try then go for it, I'd love to be proven wrong. But It's been my experience in the past that headers dont swap from a different car to another car that easily.

Good luck.
