Muffler or no muffler?

I was wondering if anybody has run their truck with no muffler? I have a 97 f150 with original exhaust. It has destroyed my wheels. I have new rims but need to replace the exhaust first. I want some sound but I hate flowmasters, My chevy 305 sounded awesome with straight pipe . Do you think the 4.6 will?

I had my factory muffler cut out and a Y pipe put in place with dual pipes/tips out back. It sounds really throaty and when you step on it, it really sounds good. However if you want a really big sound, cut out your 4 catalytic converters and replace them with straight pipe (which may be illegal for you) or put on a pair of Magnaflow hi-flo cats, then run straight pipe out the back. Im fixing to add hi flo cats and true duals while keeping the "no muffler" attitude---it should sound awesome!!

If you cut out the cats you lose back pressure and that aint good. So i'll leave those on

the amount of back pressure you would lose problwey wouldnt be anything to crap your pants about. If your like me and you want SOUND, get them cut out or get hi-flo's

I agree with Green_98. Completely straight would be LOUD, and I don't think you'd lose enough to worry about unless you're drag racing and you need that extra 1/10th of a second.

When my crappy aftermarket exhaust rusted out after only a couple years I just pulled the whole thing off. It sounds AWESOME and I get better mileage than ever.
