Magnaflow

Hey, I am hoping someone can help me out. I know very little about exhaust and I am wondering if someone could please tell me the parts I would need to purchase to put a Magnaflow exhaust system on my 1998 F-150 Extended Cab. Thank you very much and any comments will be greatly appreciated.

I know very little as well but am in the research stage of what exhaust I'd want to put on my F150. Any reason why you want Magnaflow versus Gibson or Flomaster? Thanks for your help.

Magnaflow: no baffles to break, high quality materials and welds, and the most performance.

Thanks for the info. Howabout the sound (inside and out) versus the Flomaster and Gibson?

Thanks in advance.

Quieter, but smoother inside and out vs. Flowmaster. Which Gibson are you trying to compare? The Magnaflow system will be about the same as the Side Swept, maybe a little quieter inside, which are both quieter than the Super Truck system.

Ya, it would be the Gibson Side Swept. Thing is, I really like the deep throat of FloMaster, I just don't want as much cabin noise as the FloMaster will give.

Is there a "big" difference in outside noise btwn Gibson and Flomaster?

I had a Flow 40 original. Hated it, too much drone in the cabin.
I had a Gibson Single Side swept. Nice exhaust, but a little too mellow.
I now have a Magnaflow 15609 catback. It sounds fabulous. No drone or loud noise in the cabin. Sounds fantastic when I spank her. I'll will never get anything else.
These we're all on a 5.4l.

Excellent information everyone, thank you. Would you say the Magnaflow 15609 is safe for occassional off-roading?

The 15609 system is not much different than stock with regard to off roading. Two inch or so larger tip. Should be fine for offroad.

The 15749 should also be a great system. I never considered a SI/DO as I tow a travel trailer. I'm concerned more about sound, durability, and performance than the "tips". Duals are fine, but everyone has them (or so it seems in my area). I have mine going more along the lines of a sleeper. Looks stock, only one outlet, but with a microtuner and an AF1. Perhaps more to come.

Either system should sound great/preform great.

The only problem with exiting out the side (like others have claimed) is discoloring the rear wheel. The only wheel on my F150 that is dull is the one behind the exhaust. I am going to switch to dual out the back. Anyone have the Flowmaster 50 series catback?

Also, a minor point about off-roading. In Washington state straight through mufflers are not legal on forest service roads or trails. Mufflers must also be an approved spark arrester. I regularly attend organized Jeep events and people have been sent home because of glass packs. But, I doubt there would be a problem because the Magnaflow doesn't look like a glass pack.

The Magnaflow catback exits behing the rear wheel, same as factory. Not many catback systems exit in front of the rear wheel except local custom configurations or the Gibson supertruck.

Does the Magnaflow 15609 exit out the side IN FRONT OF the wheel? Does it have to?

Magnaflow 15609 catback system exits in front of the real wheel just like a stock 97 F150.
