Im just wondering how much more sound you would get with hollowed out cats than with hi-flo cats. I guess it would be safer to go with hi-flo cats.

Green98, I would think it would more or less safer with doing the 2 hi flows but it will probably be more costly. If you can get near OFallon, I can hook you up with the shop to do the work you need. They did my buddys Lightning the same weekend they did my truck. His L sounds bad a$$ even more now

Hey Green, I am not sure even if the shop I went to would just cut out the cats only. They would prolly want to replace with the 2 hi flows for their own CYA. Yes, they are 50 state legal and CARB certified.

GREAT now gomoer pile going to screw up his truck and blame it on you, I can see it now when i sent to smog it they said they could see i modified it so I did not pass.

Cut the put use a shop long drill bit, long screw driver, hammer and shop vac. Then get a 2 -3" extender from local auto parts for your size pipe and clampe it back on.

Run up to you local muffler shop and pay then 10 bucks to weld it up for you, not that you really have to have it welded it just looks a little more professional and less likely to get hit on a smog check.

thanks alot DRK!!---also:

how much of a sound increase did you notice? My plan now is to get some Magnaflow hiflo cats for as cheap as i can get them and run true duals back to my exhisting 2 tailpipes. Right now i have a Y pipe in place of the muffler and dual tailpipes---im wondering how much more sound im going to get.

Also-for my stock 4.6, what size would i need? Im guessing 2 1/2"

the 97 and up 4.6's V-8's have 4 catalytic converters. Were discussing cutting off the 4 cats and putting on aftermarket Magnaflow cats that offer ALOT more sound and performance.

but im wondering how much more sound

Green98, the sound improvement will be very noticeable. I get even more head turns when driving it than I did before. Its much deeper, throatier, louder.... they'll definitely hear ya coming And yes, its the 2 1/2 size you need. Im tellin' ya, youre gonna love it

Green98, to answer your question in one word..... EBAY

If you get the Carsound ones (made by Magnaflow) you want the universal fit oval ones, and the part no. is 94006. Just search on ebay you'll find 'em. Lemme know if you have a problem

Magnaflow and Carsound are made from the same place. Its just that the Carsound brand tends to be cheaper to buy. They are the same thing just marketed under a different name. I sent an email to Magnaflow asking the same question and the guy responded by saying they were the same. His email even had this at the bottom "Magnaflow/Carsound" below his name. Kinda strange but who cares if the price is better
