catalytic converters nfg

I was at a muffler shop the other day and was told my catalytic converters are plugged. The quote was $1600 cdn (about $1200 for aftermarket converters) and they said the truck won't run right with them removed. Has anyone tried to remove them or have any other solutions. My truck is a 97F150 with 5.4.

Cool

HI!... WOW! That's nuts!!!!! My CATS plugged up on my "99" 5.4 and I just removed all 4 and replaced them with 2 high flow MAGNAFLOW S/S CATS. Cost me like $300(CAN) for both CATS.
