torque loss by going to a 3" single catback
torque loss by going to a 3" single catback
i remember reading somewhere where guys lost torque by going to a 3": catback- i was hoping by going to a borla or magnaflow to pick up a bit of hp or torque and a better tone- but NOT lose any torque as i tow every weekend- woul i be best off just swapping in a muffler to retain torque? thanks guys!
I'm sorry I do not have the answer for your particular truck, but I'd like to mention that from what I've read from forum to forum and site to site, depending on your engine size, the smaller your engine, the higher your chances are losing your low-end torque with a 3" system. However, don't think you'll lose power, the power band is just moved higher up the RPM scale. From the people who stated that they did feel a definite improvement, most of the time it was only during conditions under WOT.
Be careful what you read. The company that I bought my system from claimed that I'd get improvement through out my entire rpm range. Boy were they wrong! My 2.5" si/ do caused me to lose my low end. As opposed to my oem muffler system, I didn't really feel any power until I reach over 2000 rpm (thank God I don't tow). However, at 3000+ rpm, which i rarely get to anyhow, there is definitely some improvement there.
If I were you, I would WAIT, and if there still is no definite answer to your question, I would WAIT some more. Keep researching until you find that the majority of people with a 3" system w/ matching your engine set-up, have felt improvements during real world conditions (meaning results from towing or daily style driving use as opposed to racing applications).

like i said- i tow- and do not want to lose any bottom end torque i already have- with my diablo chip and mac intake- i had read on a forumn somewhere where guys installed 3" single magnaflow and lost enough torque to where they wouldn't spin any more- thanks -phil
