exhaust illiterate

I have a cracked exhaust manifold and was thinking about replacing them with headers. I understand it helps the engine breath a little better. I use my truck for work and therefore put on alot of miles. All I'm looking for a little increase in fuel mileage to help with the gas bills. I have a '91 F150 Lariat and fuel mileage pretty much sucks. As I don't have much knowledge in this area, any advice would be welcome.

Headers for 5.0 V8's are realatively inexpensive compared to the 4.6/5.4.

Probably the best brand out is JBA, they make a short tube "CatForward" model that seems pretty popular.

There are also many other brands out for the 5.0/5.8......Hooker, Flowtech, Mac, Ford Racing Performance Parts, etc.

It's all personal preference in what you want as far as Ceramic Coated, Stainless Steel, Budget Series.

For a work truck probably a budget series would work fine.

www.Macperformance.com is a very popular brand among Mustang Owners
Flowtech's can be found at www.holleyperformance.com

I would do a search in lycos or hotbot, or yahoo with the term Headers for V8 Engine and you should find a host of online merchants and compare prices.

Good Luck,

Adam
