Gibson Super Truck Exhaust
Gibson Super Truck Exhaust
Has anyone put a Gibson super truck exhaust on a 4.2 V6?
The super truck exhaust is the one that exits before the left rear tire similart to the Lightning's stock exhaust location. Give me any tips, pros or cons pleazzzzeeee.

Although this system may be less restrictive compared to your stock system, I feel that this design may decrease your low end significantly (SOTP) because it opens up the exhaust too much, considering that it is a shorter system in length, has dual 2.5" exits, and that it's bolted it to a 4.2L, V6.
When cross referencing this product for vehicle application, the same product number applies to all three engine types! (4.2, 4.6, 5.4) What the heck is that? I believe this system optimally suits the 5.4L engine but not the 4.6L and especially not the 4.2L! How do I know this? according the my SOTP my Gibson ST considerably decreased my low end on my 4.6L so I couldn't imagine what it would do for the 4.2L, especially if it's an automatic.
Opening up system to reduce restriction is a good thing, but opening it up too much reduces the "scavenging effect" needed to expel exhaust gases from your engine (which explains a loss in the low end); I believe that the Gibson ST will do just that to your truck.
IMO, generally, a stock 4.2L may definitely improve with smaller piping:
a. 2.25" in dual exits or
b. 2.5" for single systems
There are other cat-backs, far more superior and suited to work for 4.2L's than this
Don't waste your money on this aluminized system.

THANK YOU!
THATNK YOU THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH! Thats the input i was looking for. I want a sysytem that would give me overall power and some, but not alot of sound. For reasons stated i want to go with a single out before the passenger rear wheel. Does anyone know of a cat back system? Or would buying just the muffler and have a shop put custom pipes on it be cheaper?
p.s. THANK YOU!
p.s. THANK YOU!
Just to add to that. I had that exhaust system on my 97 with the 4.2 and not only did the power SUCK afterwards, it sounded like an outboard boat motor. It was so embarrassing I had it removed about a month after putting it on...
Interesting reading.
I have the ST on my 5.4, and I did notice an increase in low end, not a decrease.
Like the other poster said, perhaps this exhaust is more suited for the 5.4
How do I know it increased my low end?
Well, the day I had it installed, I layed a nice patch of rubber right at the Speedy Muffler King parking lot, before that, it was almost impossible for me to lay any rubber.

I thought about getting Gibson ST as well but because it has dual 2.5" out I went with a Flowmaster 40 series with dual 2.25"out and had it exit the same way the Gibson does. Muffler, SS pipes and tips and install ran me $285, I couldn't pass it up!!

That looks really sweet Joe A. Thats exactly how i want my tips to look. I was not planning on buying a cat back system. I herd it was cheaper to buy just the muffler of choice and have a shop run custom pipes(i can see where this can get expensive), but for my case their custom piping would be very short. I want to go with magnaflow because i hear that flowmasters egt louder, louder, and louder over time and i dont want that to happen. I thinking about magnaflows.
Magnaflow is a really great brand. Only reason I went with Flowmaster is I like the loud sound...LOL...I also thought it would be expensive to have it done was pleasantly surprised that it only came to what it did, considering I got SS pipes and tips.
