Laws regarding Hi-Flow Cats.

Hi-

I am interested (since it's summertime) in some Hi-Flow cats. What does the law say about changing out cats.?

It sounds like you have made alot of Performance Mods to your truck. I was wanting to know which mods do you like the best and which ones do you suggest first.

I have a 2001 Ext Cab F150

Looks like you started with the same mods. most everyone starts with. Intake and exhaust with a Superchips are the three best "bang for your buck mods." After, I went with a set of ASP pulleys (underdrive) and a tranny cooler (active) with a set of Mike Troyer's dual 16" electric fans. The pulleys and E-fans reduce parasidic loss and make a quite noticable difference in throttle response. I was able to feel the mods. "in the seat of the pants." The only other mods. I've done are JBA shorty headers.

The tranny cooler decision was just for my own personal security. I felt guilty running the truck hard without a quality tranny cooler protecting it. I would suggest you talk to Mike Troyer (aka SUPERCHIPS_DISTRIBUTOR, in the Computerchips forum) or you can shop online at his site at: www.troyerperformance.com

I have been dealing exclusively with him for all my mods. except my Intake and exhaust. I will be trashing my Flowmaster system soon and purchasing the more effective and better quality Magnaflow 15609 kit, through Mike.

Besides an Optima battery upgrade and a throttle body, and the exhaust, I'm pretty much stuck until after the warranty period is over (in another four years). I don't want to do anything really invasive, yet. Some guys on here, like Neal "The HP Freak" have too many mods. to count. Neals truck is so refined that he has the potential to run 13.8's on the 1/4 mile in Naturally Asperated form.

I also live in California with the most strict Air Quality standards on the American continents, so I will be limited as far as what I will be able to do.

The best bit of advice I can give you (because I'm still learning myself) is to hang ount on the boards when you can and read what others are saying. Also you should call Mike when it comes time to move on other mods. He is quite possibly the most knowledgable person when it comes to performance and our late model F-150's. You can get his phone number from his signature in teh Copmuterchips Forum... I've spent close to an hour on the phone with him going over "the Plan of action." He and his wife, Anita, are two of the nicest people.

Grinomyte-

That's what I heard, too. Five years...especially in California. I want to be able to pass smog in the future! Thanks for the response.

oh i think you'll still pass with the hi flo's, its just if its legal to have em, and if you can get someone to put em in. Depending on your smog checker, they may or may not check under the truck for a visual inspection. In either case, i dont think damaging a set of cats is too hard I heard they dont like heavy jarring impacts with say, a 10 lb sledge.

I think I have a 10Lbs. or 20Lbs. sledge hammer in the garage! Yupee!!! I'll have to the timing right and not damage anything else.

Thanks for the idea!

Right on!
