I was wanting a Magnaflow cat back for my new SuperCrew, but money is tight.

The only thing the local shops carry is Flowmasters or off name stuff. I had an original series Flowmaster 40 in my '99 F-150 X-cab and the drone in the cabin was unbearable.
Now the muffler ace I spoke with today says Flowmaster changed the original 40 to the Delta Flow because of noise complaints. I know thats BS as both are still sold. You'd think the muffler specialists *might* know a little more than they do.

*Side note to Flowmaster. Change the numbering system. You "Dealers" are confused.

Back to the topic. He will install a Delta Flow (I Hope) 40 for $125. I want very little, if none at all, cabin noise/drone. I'm also going to be towing a 5000lb travel trailer with the family, so it will be under load at times.

So, how do you like the sound? Any rumble at idle? Any noise in the cab? And...nothing to lose by leaving the stock tailpipe, correct? I may have him stick some kind of tip on it though. That grey pipe coming out the side doesn't do much for me.

 

If I were you I'd go with the 50 series DeltaFlow. The 40 series (even the deltaflow) will definitely give you some cabin drone.

 

50 series delta flow, 40 series delta flow has drone, a little less than orig 40 but still drone, the 50 delta does with od off and towing but just a little bit

 

I just had a 40 Series Delta Flow installed in my truck, and I don't get ANY drone at Interstate speeds, I get a nice Exhaust sound when I accellerate from a stop, but in a 5.4L '03 F-150 XLT Supercab with otherwise Stock Exhaust, no drone... And I love it...
