MagnaFlow Question

Is the 5x8x24 the muffler that comes in the 15609 kit? If not, what does? Looking to do a 3" SI/SO on my supercrew without getting the whole kit. What would the correct PN be?
Thanks!

Hi Symax,

No, that is not the same muffler that Magnaflow uses on their 15609 cat-back system for the late-model F-150. Nor can you use the same muffler with the rest of your stock exhaust, as the inlet & outlet sizes are off significantly. Your stock exhaust tubing is only 2.5" in diameter, while the muffler used in Magnaflow's 15609 cat-back system has a 3" inlet & outlet size, which won't work.

If you'd like to give us a call, we can go over that with you to get you the correct muffler & get you a great price on it, too.

By the way, just in case you may not be aware of this (and please forgive me if you already know this), replacing the muffler alone is going to get you, at most, about a 5-& HP gain on a 5.4 motor, 4-6 HP on a 4.6, and 3-4 HP on a 4.3L V6 F-150, just to give you a rough idea of what changing out to the best muffler will do. Changing the muffler alone, even using the exact same one as Magnaflow uses in the 15609, will not get you more than about a 5-7 HP gain at most in a 5.4 F-150, as the rest of the restriction in the cat-back portion of the exhaust system is in the 2.5" (and even smaller in some areas) non-mandrel tubing of the stock exhaust system, not the muffler.

I don't know if this is of any interest to you, but we just recently released our Troyer Performance SIDO (Single In, Dual Out) exhaust system for the 1997-2003 F-150, and it's *far* less than the Magnaflow 15609 system. I mention this only because some people who were previously looking at doing just a muffler swap are goign this route because they get much better results without spending anywhere near what the complete Magnaflow cat-back system does. I don't know if that might be something you'd have any interest in, but it's at least worth knowing about.

You can see more about it at our web site over at: http://www.TroyerPerformance.com - Click on "Shop" when the home page loads, then go to the Exhaust section and select "List by Vehicle Type," then click on the Ford systems. Our Troyer Performance system is on the last page in that Ford section. Just FYI.....................

We understand what you want to do of course, & we can help you with doing the muffler-only change no problem, just give us a quick call when you get a chance. Our contact info is below in our signature line.

Good luck!

Talking SuperChips, Thanks!

What I am doing hopfully this weekend is replacing the stock system with a 5x8x24 magnaflow 3" SI/SO as well as all the pipe back to a 3.5x24 stainless tip. A friend of mine has the all the bending tools as well as the welder. I can get a good deal on the pipe and tip, I just needed to find out what muffler was used. I know I am not going to get all the full benefits of a true magnaflow system because the 3" pipe will not be mandrel bent, but its certainly going to help I hope? I really like being able to throw a question out here and have someone like you who has been there and done that get me the right answers! Thanks Again!
