Catalytic Converter
Catalytic Converter
I recently purchaced a 1999 F150 XLT and was snooping around under looking at the exhaust system. I was amazed to see not only a gigantic muffler, but 2 catalytic converters that were welded in place. Is this normal? This could be very expensive if one of them goes bad. They would need to be cut out. Is this normal or just a blunder on Fords part ?
2 or 4 cats on a 1999 ?
If memory serves me correctly, it has 4 Cats, look up towards the xhst manifold, and you should see 2 more inline.
If not 1 of 2 things.
1. I got my years wrong for the 4 cat system.
or
2. Someone already yanked all 4 cats and hopefully put on high flow cats, and something like a Casper Electronics MIL Elminator for the second set of O2 sensors.
Oh yea, if it has 4 cats, there is also 4 HO2 sensors under there. Wait until you try to get to the first one on the pass side. PITA
