before tire, side exit...

Hi--

Now that I have purchased a set of headers, I was thinking of upgrading my cat back system from my Flowmasters to a SI/SO or SI/DO before-tire-side-exit Magnaflow system. What suggestions can you give me regarding whether I should get SI/SO or SI/DO...does it make any difference regarding exhaust flow?

I want to keep the cats stock for now.

Thanks!

dual SI/SO will flow more air, but not sure if you would feel it or not, if you have a chip it would prolly help out.

How does a SI/SO flow more than a SI/DO? ...Personally i like the looks of a Dual out the side ..I've had both...

Thanks for the replies. I want to stay SI from the stock cats, but I was just wondering if there would be a difference between SO and DO as far as exhaust flow. Also, Which Magnaflow muffler is the least restrictive? Some shops have aluminized Magnaflow cat back and some have the SS...which one holds up better to the elements?

THANKS AGAIN DUDES!

oh, guess I was thinking you were going to run 2 SI/SO like a true dual setup. Ya, if you run one muffler the airflow should be the same.

SS will hold up better. I have a Borla SI/DO side exit on my 97 pics in gallery. Borla Part #14627

Hey Richard-

Just opened the JBA headers box. I got the ceramic coated satin finish, which says "Silver finish on the JBA box...oh well. What I was wondering about was, I noticed a spot on the inside of one of the header tubes that has the Jet Hot ceramic flaking off. It's just the size of a dime or so. The outside is fine with excep[tion to a few nicks in the SS, under the Jet hot Ceramic. Should I worry about that spot? or just let it go since the outside will insulate, too?

Thanks! Besides those little things, they look great!

Are you sure it is the coating itself coming off or just some residue? If you are not happy with the way they look and are worried about it call who ever you purchased them from and tell them and then let them know that you want a replacment set sent out to you and the other ones picked up at there cost. Satin finish is the silver by the way.

I'm not really worried about it...they have a lifetime warrenty, but id does look like there is a spot where the "silver coating" has flaked off. Whether this is the ceramic or not, I don't know. It is on the inside of the right header in one of the mandrel bent tubes. The outside finish is flawless and the rest of the headers are completely covered. I don't think I'm going to worry about this one defect in the finish. The heat should not escape from that point due to the outside being coated with the ceramic, too.

Update:

I just spoke to a rep. at JBA and they said that they would send out a new pair of headers without any problem. The only catch, I have to pay the UPS fees for the old headers to get to them. Otherwise I would have to go through the person I bought them from and it would take up to twice as long. I'm going to send them out on Thursday. JBA's in Cali anyway!

There you go see you were worried about after all. Especially since you did post about it after all. GOOD DEAL.

Guess I was a little worried. Often times, I am a little too overly picky when it comes to my truck, but in this case, I decided to call and see what they had to say. I figured, what's the purpose of having a header ceramic coated if the whole thing isn't coated!!!!!!!!! Now I'm going to see about having them take care of the shipping cost (TO them), since it was their defect.

Hey! You might want to rethink that before tire exit thing. I had a recall on my'97 which came stock with a before tire exit and I ignored it. DUHHH!! My passenger side hub cap turned GREEN and all the fake chrome came off!! Now that I have a new set of wheels I am going to go to an aftermarket exhaust but it will be an AFTER wheel exit. Check with your Ford dealer regarding this. Good luck.

The discoloration is from the exhaust's corrosive moisture vapors condensing on the wheel.

I'm not sure if that will be an issue for M150? Does it get that cold in the Frisco area compared with Indiana?

Hmmmm. You mean that's a cold weather issue?? Never thought of that. So , if I move south, I can keep a side exit? That might cut into my snowmobiling though---and then I wouldn't get to four wheel just to get there. Seriously though, I can see where it might not condense on the hubcap at higher temps.
