Muffler/cat-back question

I own a 01 SCrew and am looking for a little better performance and MPG. Sound and looks are secondary. I'm looking at the Magnaflow cat-back system.

Can I buy just install the muffler and keep everything stock and get improved performance?

Or do I need to buy the kit and replace the pipes also to get the full benefit?

Thanks.

The two things to replace for performance are the factory y-pipe and the muffler. If you have a 5.4L, I recommend using 3" pipe from the y all the way back for single systems. If you have the 4.6L, use a 3" y-pipe (from dual 2.5") into a 3" muffler, thne the stock 2.5" tail pipe.

The Magnaflow system (#15609) is a good one, but IMHO overpriced. If you want to bolt something on in your driveway, it may be worth the price. But are better off buying the muffler, universal mandrel bent tail pipe, and tip and have a shop weld it together. Less than half the price for the exact same parts used in the system. Check out www.bigexhaust.com for some good prices.

A large Magnaflow muffler will not sound too loud, but dive a little more presence when you ive it a lot of throttle.

Pudidog the Cat-back system will indeed give you more performance than the stock pipes it is not necassary to replace all your y pipe and such some people just prefer that over the cat back systems. Cat-Back system are induvidually designed for each application and will improve performance. I would also suggest you look into Borla and I highly suggest you go to there site and read up on all the great info they have about "LARGE" exhaust pipe. www.borla.com

Bigger isn't alway better
