Post Wanted: more sound & power

Ok, I know you guys are sick of hearing it, but it goes one more time. Let me have some more opinions on the good the bad and all the rest of these two systems. I have a 97 Ford F150 reg cab/long bed with the 4.6L

I was also looking at Ravin systems and Flowmaster systems except I was not buying a complete system.

Option 1:
Local muffler shop to clamp on Flowmaster 40 or 50 series (does not carry Delta flows) aluminized pipe si/do with chrome tips (does not have stainless steel). Last con, will not weld it on, says it is too hard to get them back off later (who cares, if I want it welded, then they should weld it on), Price $320

Option 2:
Go to Midas shop. Have them "weld" on a Ravin Z33 or Z55 si/do aluminized pipe with chrome or stainless steel tips. I have only talked to one Midas shop so far and he hadn't installed this muffler put promised to check it out more and he said he knew he could get them. He wasn't for sure on the prices. When I first said I wanted a dual exhaust system he quoted me a price of $216 + $38 labor before he gave me a chance to ask about the ravin and ss tips. After i told him the range of what I thought the ravin muff were he siad he should be able to put the system on for around $350 or less.
Help me pick here guys, can't make up my mind. Plus I do not want to modify the y pipe yet so should I go 2.5 to muff and then go 2.25 dual(or stick to dual 2.5)out the rear or should I go to 3 in to muff then one of the exit options mentioned above.

Sorry for long post, I know this subject is getting old for the most of you. Just trying to spend wisely.

Talking

Sorry, I don't get online much any more with work and all.

I would suggest the Ravin. But that is a personal opinion. I absolutely love the tone and volume of it. The 33's are about perfect in my opinion.

My system currently is a S/I 3" and dual 2 1/2" out with the stainless tips. I will probably be modifying it later, but for now it sounds great, and after 6+ months, I am still impressed with it.

I have been looking at every posting I could find for the past few weeks trying to decide on a new exhaust system. The 00 HD Ford press says it has a "rumble". To me it sounded like a whisper. Since I am installing an Alpine DVD set up in the front dash and rear seat backrests, I did not want a cab noise. I finally decided on the Flowmaster Series 50 and it sounds great-not to loud and no longer the "whisper". I kept the same tailpipe setup with the "Lighting Tuned" stock tips.

Do what I did, take the muffler off. I put the 40 series delta flow on. Still to quiet, heard people talking about taking the muffler off and putting in a "Y" pipe. That is what I did. No lose in performance, much better sound and a lot more look from people. Worst case scenario you take it off it is to loud and you then put a new system on. Try it you will like it. -steve

Howdy!

KYFordFreak,

1. Good luck in finding stainless steel. You have to special order and it costs an arm and a leg. I spent a whole year looking for a certain look in SS.

2. Midas blows! (Previously posted) Incompetent, careless staff, no warranty..

------------------
My ride:

Basics:
- '99 XLT F-150

Under hood and back:
- Ram air (Don't ask me how )
- AiRaid intake
- Flowmaster DF 50 Series
- 24x3.5" Stainless steel slashed tips (Yes! Solid polished SS, no cheesy chrome-plated)
...

Outside:
- Precision polished billet grille and plate holders
- American Racing 17x8s polished Pythons (Flushed front AND back)
- Goodyear.. something tires (Expensive is all I know. LOL. No Firestone firecrackers for me either)
- Rhino liner
- Ford nerf bars
- Ford bed rails
...

Inside:
- My girlfriend!
...

Fun stuff:
- Dual sirens Black Widow alarm system/keyless entry (Enough decibels to go deaf in a garage )
- Custom driving lights (Just a cool blue)
- 2 High-Watt lights behind grille (For people who cut me off )
- Dual horns (For people who, again, cut me off)
- Dual wheel locks (So I won't be driving home on bricks!)
- Spare wheel lock (So I won't have to use a brick as a spare )
...

Best of all:
- Texas A&M University aTm front plate! Gig'em Aggies!!

I'd go with the flowmaster 40. I had a SI/DO
3inch in to dual 2.5inch out with all new 3 inch pipe after the Y, it was all welded. Cost me about 230 without tips. I had it put on at meineke. I later bout two stainless rolled edge pencil tips. They cost about 40 a peice and cost ten bucks to weld on. The exhaust is in so solidly I can almost stand on the tips without them even moving.

Well over the weekend I heard a fellow 4.6 that sound pretty quiet to me. He had a second Y pipe welded in after the factory Y (about 6 inches back) to create dual pipes and then had two glasspacks turned backwards (or at least he said they was backwards), he then ran what looked like 2.5 pipe back to 2 24 inch chrome tips. It had a deeper, richer sound but was still fairly quiet on my sound scale (heck even my girlfriend said it was still too quiet). Now I think if that's all the sound he got from glasspacks I will have to run no mufflers to get the sound I want. This brings new questions into play for me. Is there any 1 good way that I can eliminate the mufflers and not loose low end? Also, is everyone positive that the 4 cats provide enough back pressure for these engines? Now if I go this way I just need to find a shop that will do this kind of work. The shop that installed the above guys system did not have anyone expereinced enough to weld on his system, so he used their welder and did it himself. That makes me question their knowledge and abilty, not sure if I would take my truck there. Tell me what you think. How loud in your opinion is the Ravin Z-33 or the Flow 40 series (not the DF's)

You might try a Sport Truck SUV, Sportsman Street or Sportsmans Split Case muffler from SpinTech. You can get them in SS if you want. I have the Truck RV as part of their cat-back system along with a X-pipe but it may be a little quite for you based on what I'm reading from you.
