Exclamation Got my pipes today!!!!!

I got my pipes on my '99 Ford with the 5.4 today. I was planning on true dual straights, i went with a Y pipe after the factory Y and ran straights from that. I put on 3 1/2" stainless tips straight out the back. THe sound is AWESOME! It is a deep growl idling, and a deep deep growl upon acceleration. WHen you let off there is nothing, sounds stock, when you tap the gas it really livens up! Sounds ****Y. I love it.

So if I understand you correctly, you do not have a true dual setup. You just have two Y's, the factory one back to another one that splits the pipes out duals and you use two mufflers. Why, not just go with a regular si/do muffler and save the cost of the second muffler?

Yeah I don't have true duals, it is split into a Y and then dualed out the back. No mufflers.

No there wasn't any loss in low-end.

Paid $180 for it. PLus tax. So it was $190.80, not bad since he had to make everything for it.

IT sounds better and better every day. MY buddy and I had a rev up contest today,. he has a 1984 Chevey 3/4 ton with a 454, no cats, true dual short glass packs. I beat him for loudness and growl, he beat me for let off sound. His cackles and has a great sound when he lets off.

All in all it is a Great system! I'll record it soon so you can all hear it!

I think what fordman302 is saying is that he has a factory "Y" pipe, then an added "Y" pipe to split it back out to two pipes, and no mufflers at all. Just pipes out the back to his big crome cans. I did mine similar this week but I split the factory "Y" pipe & went true duals out the back with no mufflers. Mine is going back in Friday morning to get a cross over pipe somewhere close to the front. Hey fordman302, any low end power loss ? I immagine not since you left the factory Y in place which would provide a little balance I lost when I went true duals. I don't regret it, I'm just not done yet that's all............

Yeah all the emission equipment is still intact. I don't want to mess with it on these new vehicles too bad. Everyone that has just has a rougher running truck. I hav ea few friends that have done this to their newer *hevies.
