Well I'm kinda new here and after getting lots of good info from this site over the past week, I thought I'd contribute something. I have a 2001 F150 Lariat Supercab with a 4.6 Auto. About 2 weeks ago (prior to reading all the great info here) I had the Ravin Z33 SI/DO installed. The Midas guy had advised me to go with the Z33 due to Ford trucks "being especially quiet due to so many cats.." The Z33 was in a word...brutal! It sounded great outside the truck, deep and meaty, but was just too much inside the cab. The reasonance/drone between 1700-2100 was just too much for me. Showing my age I guess, but I had just sold a 99 Mustang Cobra with a full Bassanni setup and even it was quieter than my truck was now! After reading up on the Ravins here, including a post where someone mentioned that their Midas guy said that 9 out of 10 people trade in their Z33 for a Z55, I went and haggled with Midas. They agreed to do an exchange since it was them that recommended the Z33 in the first place. What a world of difference. It still sounds great on the outside, but the difference inside is dramatic. There is still a slight drone in the same RPM range, but it does not vibrate the fillings out of my head anymore. I'm much much happier with the Z55, but then again, I may be showing my age. 20 years ago even the Z33 wouldn't have been nearly loud enough! Just my opinion. Your results may vary.

 

whare did they install the Z33, mine was originaly under the box and I had no cab noise at all, I actualy found it way to quiet.. I had it move up last week and a 3" tail pipe added with it dumping out the side.. now it is under the back seat and it sounds awsome. it is about twice as loud outside the truck (still plenty aceptible for the neibours, and has a sporty rumble inside with out getting me in trouble with the wife

oh, if anyone knows how I can stp that bit of rust on the cut part of the pipe let me know please.

Naval Jelly will stop the rust. I don't know if it would get too hot, but after that you could apply some type of primer. Good luck

 

Wow, thats the same thing the Midas guys told me too. When it first done, I thought it was just awesome and almost too loud (the Z33s) I have a Screw so it was placed under the bed and now i think its not loud enuff. So, I am having all 4 cats removed and replaced with just 2 Magnaflow hi flow cats this sat. I cant wait to hear the diff.
