Question cat. converter

Hi. I purchased a 97 F-150 three weeks ago and the Check Engine light has been coming off and on like Christmas lights every three days or so since. The first time it happened, I took it back to the dealer and he replaced the "EGR solenoid" for me. Does anyone have any suggestions...the light is staying on for a couple of days then going off. Someone suggested to me that I may need to replace the catalytic converter. I really don't know if the truck was used to tow a lot or was taken off road very much...I don't do either so...... I would really appreciate any suggestions.

if your light is stil coming on, take it to autozone and they will pull a code on it for free and determine what your problem is
